Pros:They did make a musical out of it.
Cons:Bad language, weird sex, and just a ton of (adult?) content.
The Bottom Line: This is not a fairy tale, it is a very (adult? I can't even say if it is adult??) content.
Being a big fan of The Wizard of Oz I decided to buy this book. I had never heard of it before and thought it sounded really interesting. I soon found out that it is way TOO adult for ME. There are things in it that are just so far from The Wizard of Oz. He named it Wicked because it truly is a wicked book.
In the beginning you find out the preacher's wife sleeps around. She ends up having the Wicked Witch but I don't even think she knows who the Dad is. She doesn't love her child, and I don't really know if anyone loves her. Child neglect and not wanting her. Saying things like they should just drown her.
Then the Nanny decides to take the Wicked Witch to a regular play group. During this play group the other children abuse her and the adults just watch and don't do anything about it. Simply say, "That's children for you."
One of the things that disturbed me the most is when they described the clock. Then it went on to the clock telling the story of the mother and daughter who had sex with a guy, the mother on the front and the daughter on the back because the guy had two... well you know. One on front and one on back. So that was described when I didn't even want it to be. How the guy came up with that??? Let's just say I don't want to know what goes on in his mind.
The language is bad, and it talks about sex way too much. Even weird sex. At one point there was some weird sex stuff going on with animals. Things I just don't even want to think about. If your hoping for a fairy tale, this is not it.
If you have always loved the Wizard of Oz, this book will ruin that for you too! Personally, I would rather stick with the kids fairy tales.
