Wifey was written by Judy Blume in 1978. Judy Blume is the Author of numerous Best Selling books such as "Smart Woman" , "Summer Sisters", "Forever" and also childrens books such as "Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing", "Superfudge", "Deenie" and "Are you there God? It's me Margaret".
Wifey is the story of a "well-to-do" bored housewife in suburban New Jersey, during a summer in the early 1970s. The main character is Sandy Pressman and the story is told from her point of view. Sandy has been bored with her life and marriage, tired of the everyday routine that Husband Norman will not let her change. Norman drives her crazy with his to-do lists, the special treatment of the dog, and how he hates to have his meal schedule interrupted. Sandy has been repressed sexually by her husband for the entire length of their marriage. Norman will only have "scheduled" sex and afterwards he gargles, scrubs and sprays Lysol.
With their children away for the summer, Sandy finally decides she has had enough and decides to take a walk on the wild side and it forever changes her "good girl" image. Meanwhile, life goes on for her husband, family, and friends, most of whom are clueless about Sandy's activities.
This book was fast-paced, fun and sexy. I was hooked from the first page, the characters and the storylines were easy to follow and so true to life. The ending was a little disappointing it basically just cuts you off because they just go on without resolving much of anything. Other than that I highly recommend Wifey; it is a must for women, much better read than any romance novel.
Other Judy Blume books that I recommend are Smart Women and Summer Sisters.
