roynyr's Full Review: Wiffle 9 Inch Baseballs In Counter Top Display One...
One of the absolutely greatest inventions ever in the history of mankind just has to be the Wiffle Ball ( all right perhaps I am exaggerating a tiny bit! ). The wiffle ball itself, which coincidentally is still produced exclusively in the United States, is a rather simple invention, made of plastic with 3 air holes built into to allow curves, sinkers, and rising pitches. The tricks that one could do with a wiffle ball were astounding.
When I was younger, I could play wiffle ball out on the streets for hours and hours at a time, pitching all sorts of different types of pitches - the side arm rising fastball, throwing the hard sinker by having the holes of the ball on the left side , the big sweeping curve ball and holding it with 3 fingers and having the holes of the ball on the right side. In hitting, I remembering distinctly imitating the batting stance of my favorite baseball player and hero of my youth, Don Mattingly of the New York Yankees, wiggling the wiffle bat.
Every summer, a group of my friends will occassionally gather to play wiffle ball. We would then go outside and play wiffle ball for hours upon a time on the sidewalk in front of our houses. I do have to say rather unequivoably that the prices of the balls have certainly risen quite substantially since my younger days. Today, the wiffle ball has more than tripled from the price of my youth astonishingly. When I was kid, I could go around the corner to the local candy store and purchase one on the counter by the register for forty-five cents. This was obviously a pretty long time ago.
I recently went to my local sporting goods store in the mall and saw a single wiffle ball going for a mind blowing one dollar and fifty cents. My jaw hit the floor! I could not believe how much it cost. Out of a sense of morbid curiousity, I went down the aisle where they were selling the wiffle balls in a pack of a dozen. The price was $13.99. However, if you really think about even though the price has exponentially increased over the year, it is still a pretty decent value. For a little over a dollar you can have days of baseball playing entertainment, get in some good exercise, and have lots of fun.
Conclusion
The Wiffle Ball is a simple invention. One of the really cool things about the wiffle ball is that it is the exact same size as a regulation baseball - so you feel like a major league pitcher when throwing the ball. In conclusion, the Wiffle Ball is a great affordable ball that can provide hours and hours of fun and entertainment for all.
