| tenl's Full Review: Wigo Wg5101 Taifun 1100 Watts |
As a hair stylist for several years, I have always been interested in exploring different hair styling tools. Hair is my passion therefore any type of equipment that'll make my job easier or my client happier is always worth the investigation.
Over the years, I have used hairdryers such as the Denman Cabrio($50) and SuperSolano($65) of which I have ultimately decided upon the Wigo Taifun($75). I noticed this dryer to be the equipment of choice among several colleagues and finally decided to experience it for myself.
The Wigo is a simple hairdryer with two heat settings and a instant cold air button. Like the other hairdryers, it also comes with a concentrator nozzle, however, the Wigo's narrow barrel design makes this attachment unnecessary. The all metal exterior is incredibly durable but also adds to the overall weight of approximately 3 pounds. I have dropped my dryer on several occasions and it has suffered all but a few scratches and a small dent. Some of my colleagues have had their dryer for almost 8 years now and don't intend to change anytime soon.
The one thing I particularly enjoy about this dryer is the overall compact design. It is significantly smaller by at least 1" all around than the other two dryers. However the 6' cord, which is standard for most dryers, now seems a bit restricting after being accustomed to the 10' Solano cord.
I will admit the Wigo doesn't get nearly as hot as the SuperSolano, however, on a few occasions clients have complained of the Solano being too hot. The Denman Cabrio doesn't seem to get hot enough and does not fit a diffuser properly due to the sloping barrel design.
All of these dryers are probably better suited for the hair professional who does 5-15 clients a day compared to the individual who fixes their hair every morning. You can definitely find cheaper dryers at your local store which are comparable, but of course not made to run hot all day long.
Even though the SuperSolano is probably the most powerful dryer I've used, I have found the Wigo to be the most durable, comfortable, and well designed overall.
