tommy_lop's Full Review: Wii Naruto Clash Of Ninja Revolution 2 Wii Naruto ...
I got Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 for the Nintendo wii a couple of months ago when I found it marked down to about 20 dollars. Wanting to try a Naruto game for the wii picked it up and gave it a chance. Naruto clash of ninja revolution 2 is a fun fighting game but it’s way to short story mode and lack of online play make it a bit lacking.
Story Ninja Revolution 2 offers an original story line, in others words it fits in with those 80 crappy episodes that happens after the Sauske retrieval arc, and it’s about the same quality has most of those episodes. Basically some rogue Jonin named Kagura has put the hidden leaf village under a special Genjutsu that makes friends see each other has enemies and now the village is tearing itself apart. Of course a few ninja have remained un affected, Naruto, Kakashi, Garra, Rock Lee, Jirayai and Tsunade remain unaffected and have to fight both friend and foe to stop Kagura. Basically small story snippets happen before you fight and the story isn’t that entertaining.
Graphics. The characters in the game are cel shaded and they fit the designs of the characters in the show. The backgrounds are recognizable places around the leaf village with a few original background. Character animation is fluid and the whole thing looks nice for a wii game based around Naruto.
Sound. With the exception of Tsunade all the voices from the English TV show reprise there roles. There is no Japanese sub sorry otaku’s. The English VA’s all do a fine job in voicing the characters. Music from the series also fills the background, basically the sound pretty much fits every Naruto game.
Gameplay Clash is pretty much a pure fighting game in the main story mode you basically beat up enemies and move on. But it does have some pretty interesting aspects to it. The battles take place in a full 3d environment. In it there are things that you can use to stand behind and break out and attack enemies. And like most 3d fighting game the whole point is to do has much damage by comboing between light and strong attack. Also each character has a special jutsu attacks they can do when there chakra gage is filled by pressing X. And of course it wouldn’t be a Naruto game if you couldn’t surprise people by doing a replacement jutsu which is done pressing the L and R shoulder buttons on the game cube controller.
The game does offer some strategy doing a replacement jutsu allows you to automatically counter attack depending on what button you press on the controller but it uses up 70% of the chakra gage. Also the special jutsu can change and become more powerful depending on how much health your character has. At full power Naruto will only do a weak shadow clone jutsu attack. When he is down on the red his jutsu attack will turned into a much more powerful rasengan attack . So some strategy can be used when it comes to damage and jutsu.
Also the game doesn’t just do 1 on 1 fights there are also two other fights. The other one is a marvel vs. capcom type tag team fight in which you can tag in between two characters. The characters not be used with gradually recover health and chakra. A double combo can be initiated when both characters chakra gages are filled.
And the final type of game is a 4 player brawl where 4 characters are on the field slugging it out. This one can be a bit chaotic but it’s fun.
The main problem with Clash of ninja revolution 2 is that it’s story is short and there is no online. In the games defense there is a time attack, survival, and score attack mode. Along with a mission mode in which you have to battle and meet certain conditions for each character. But these all get repetitive when battling the computer Ai and there is no online play. Wii mote vs. game cube controller. Like a lot of wii games that give you the option of playing with the game cube controller, the wii remote offers some different fun but the game cube controller is the more precise way to do things. It’s easier to keep track of your attacks when your hitting the B and the A button for weak and strong then waggling the wii remote. The designers realize this so they did a few things different that give wii remote users an edge over the game cube users. Fist is hand sings by pressing C and Z on the nun chuck and waggling the wii remote users can try to cast hand sings that power up there character. Try because hand signs are more of an art then a science and often times fail. The next thing works a little bit better and it’s done when you hit an opponent with a jutsu. If you hit an opponent with a rasengan during the rasengan animation you can twist the wii remote around to cause extra damage to the victim of your attack.
Final Recommendation. Clash of Ninja Reveloution 2 isn’t the worse Naruto game I have ever played but it’s far from the best. No online and the main story mode is just too short. The game is fun so if you have friends who like Naruto getting them together for a 4 player brawl may be worth the time.
