There are few good games out for the Nintendo Wii at the present time. WarioWare, Resident Evil, Cooking Mama, and Zelda. 3 of the above games i know for a fact can support more than 1 player simultaneously! In order to do that you are going to have to get yourself another Wii-mote. You have 2 choices here. You can go and buy a wii-mote for $39.99 or you can spend an extra $10 and get Wii-Play with an additional Wii-mote included.
The hands down success of Wii-Sports bought fame to the Nintendo Wii! It's innovative game play put gamers right into the heart of 5 popular sports! Everyone had so much fun with this game, people were thirsty for me, then along comes Wii-Play.
I am going to be a little less harsh on this game because i really think Nintendo did not intend Wii-Play to be full blown, award winning game. Instead i think Nintendo wanted more people to get a 2nd Wii-mote so that more people can enjoy the multi player aspect of their new console. What better way to get people to get a new Wii-mote than putting it in a bundle with Wii-Play. I really think that it should be Nintendo Wii-mote with Wii-play rather than Wii-Play with a Wii-mote here.
Wii-Play is a series of games designed for 2 players to compete alongside each other at the same time. I think Nintendo wanted people to realize how fun it was to play alongside someone rather than yourself. In all there are 9 different games in Wii-Play, they are as follows!
Billiards
A simple game of billiards that shows of the range of movement you can achieve with the remote. Out of all the games i think this is the best in single player it is also great in 2 player mode as well.
Pose-Mii
In this game you have to make your Mii transform into various shapes so that they can fit into the molds that fall down the screen, the object is to not let any of your Mii-hit the bottom of the screen! Quite fun in 2 player mode...not so much in single player!
Find-Mii
This is a fun game. In this game you are given various challenges to find certain Mii's on the screen. You are asked to find 2 look a like Mii's. Which Mii's are sleeping. which is the fastest Mii and so on! Sounds easy but you only have a certain amount of time to figure out each puzzle! I like this one! Great fun in 2 player, again not so much in 1 player!
Shooting Range
As soon as this one loaded i immediately thought of the classic game Duck Hunt from the classic NES. You have to point the Wii-Mote at the screen like a gun and shoot the target. While not as good as duck hunt it is still pretty good fun! 1 player mode is bearable, but it does not beat the competitiveness of 2 player!
Table Tennis
I actually really like this one in one player mode more so than 2 player mode. In the one player mode, the goal is to return 100 balls back across the net, as soon as you miss one you start from scratch. In two player mode it is the first player to eleven. This is a fun game but does not really highlight what the Wii-mote can do as all it lets you do is move the paddle left and right, forward and back! Nonetheless still entertaining for a while!
The rest of the games on here are not even worth taking the time to write about in all honesty! There is Tanks a game where you have to maneuver your tank and destroy the computer controlled tank! Fishing, where you hold on to a rod and try to catch oddly shaped fish out of a small swimming pool, you yank back on the Wii-mote to pull the fish from the water! Charge, in this game you control a cow and the object is to knock down as many scarecrows and jump as many fences as possible (my son likes this game because he is obsessed with cows!) and Laser Hockey, looks a lot like the original Pong with updated graphics, the idea is to score a goal against your opponent! The last few games i have mentioned are really, well quite awful. They do not showcase the obvious potential of the Wii at all!
The graphics in Wii-Play are like those found in Wii-Sports. The game utilizes the Mii's that you have created on your Wii, as well as one that are already in the game! The graphics are cutesy, bright and fun. The sound is okay and it gets the job done! Again there is nothing really groundbreaking about Wii-Play, it is nothing that hasn't already been done in Wii-Sports.
The overall control scheme is okay! You get to use the Wii-Mote and go through the complete range of motions (not all in one game) but throughout the 9 games. Really each game teaches you different things about the Wii-Mote and what it can do for you and what it's capabilities are. It really does show you that there is so much potential for the Wii! It is fun to play some of these games along side a friend, but really what you are buying is the Wii-Mote and not a solid game for your Wii!
All in all Wii-Play is a good way to get a second Wii-Mote for your new Nintendo Wii! Think of it as a Wii-Mote that comes bundles with 9 games for an additional $10! I think that is the way that Nintendo Intended it to be! Honestly it is a good deal! A Wii-Mote + 9 additional games to play against your friend until more games get released on the Wii for $49.99. definitely worth it. The game content is not grand, but it can be fun and now you have another Wii-Mote for when those Epic 2 player games do eventually get released on the Wii!
