| pippadaisy's Full Review: Wild Planet Aquapets Special Encore Edition Buddy ... |
Santa is a deluded old fool. You see, Santa saw how much my little Beanie loved her buddy's Aquapet and thought nothing would be more pleasing than getting her a limited edition set of two: one sparkling pink (Puku) and the other sparkling purple. Well, Santa has me to answer to after letting these two Spawn of Satan into this house.
::: The Twins From Hell :::
The Wild Planet Aquapets Special Encore Edition Buddy Pack Miku & Puku is a set of two of the wildly popular Aquapets released in special colors and sold exclusively at Toys 'R Us. Each one is suspended in what appears to be a wide inverted test tube set into a plastic base. In the center of the base is the Aquapet's "special power sign;" Miku's is the ocean, and Puku's is optimism. Miku's normal blue color has been replaced with a purple base and sparkling lavender body, while Puku is much the same, only with a darker pink sparkling body.
Each Aquapet requires two "AAA" batteries (not included) that insert into the bottom of the base, and seem to last a long time. The pets sleep, talk, sing, and complain, all in a beeping gibberish. To pet the Aquapet, you press a yellow button with a heart sign on the base, and to feed it, you press a button with a star sign. The Aquapet also responds to sounds, like your voice, a door shutting, and a hundred other noises you don't realize you are making. They also come with an "Official Identification Card," that, when turned over, will form a picture when added to all the other Aquapets cards. (I hid them.)
The Wild Planet Aquapets Special Encore Edition Buddy Pack Miku & Puku will sing, whine, and play a game, all depending on their mood. They will also go to sleep when ignored, or you press both buttons at once. In this respect, they are more like Furbies than Tamagotchis.
::: Why Mommy Hates Santa :::
Truly, Mommy had NO idea how annoying these buggers could be. Each has its own personality, and one of them makes a noise that keeps making me think that someone is sending me an instant message. In addition, when you have two or more Aquapets, they will interact with each other, making the noises, dancing, singing, and whining go on much longer when all you want is for them to shut up, go to sleep and leave you some peace and quiet.
Battery life is, unfortunately, excellent, as these suckers don't seem to die. You'd think after several days in a row of chattering back and forth to each other as well as being used and abused by Beanie, they would just up and die already and Mommy could claim that we have no more "AAA" batteries, but NO... that would just be too EASY.
The Wild Planet Aquapets Special Encore Edition Buddy Pack Miku & Puku is recommended for ages 5 and up, but I can assure you that these are the most popular gift in my house. All three kids fight over these toys, including the baby, who bogarted Miku yesterday and positively refused to unclamp his little fist. At this rate, we are going to have to add more of these heinous beings to our house just to keep peace among the children, and it's not something I'm looking forward to.
I do have to admit, however, that the quiet in the van since the arrival of the Wild Planet Aquapets Special Encore Edition Buddy Pack Miku & Puku is absolutely astounding, and might be worth the annoyance factor once we are back to doing the daily round trip to school.
