Pros:Relatively cheap, 101 proof, good oak use
Cons:Not much to complain about
The Bottom Line: This 101 proof whiskey is good to have around to substitute for more expensive bourbons.
Austin Nichols Wild Turkey at 101 proof is a solid bourbon, but definitely not the best on the shelf aged 8 years and selling around $20 for 750ml.

WILD TURKEY - This bourbons history lies in the US through and through, founded in 1869 and still sits on what is now known as Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. They produce over a ½ dozen spirits and distribute well in the US, Australia, and Japan.
It is good to know that Wild Turkey continues to produce a stronger whiskey where other favorites (like Jack Daniels) continue to weaken their whiskies just because the public doesnt complain or seem to care.
French owned, Wild Turkey keeps that a part a secret with their bold REAL KENTUCKY label.
THE POUR - Wild Turkey pours an amber golden color that softens to a pale orange when cut with water or ice.
THE NOSE - Initially, neat, the whiskey might be too strong to tempt the taste. It smells strong, astringent, and covers the gentle sweetness of honey and vanilla. Cut more by the water, the sweetness comes through more and uncovers a slight sense of oak and a floral citrus sense. After the whiskey warmed after the ice dissolved, it was much better at its best near room temperature.
THE TASTE - At 101 proof, this whiskey was bold, spicy, and finished sour and dry. I did not enjoy it too much. Cut with water, the sweetness of honey and vanilla came through with slight tastes of citrus sourness. The finish became more pleasant as the sourness softened. Like the aroma, the taste improved the more the whiskey approached room temperature.
THE AFTERTASTE - This is a good whiskey for around $20. I could see having this on my shelf for guests and when mass consumption might be in order. I will turn to other bourbons like Jim Beam Black and Knob Creek long before this. I would place this whiskey over Jack Daniels due to the price and that the distiller still takes the time to age it 8 years and keep it at 101 proof.
