three_ster's Full Review: NFL Blitz for PlayStation 1
I purchased this game as the first one that I would have for my Playstation, and I had heard that it was a really cool one. I bought it, and I was overjoyed by what I had received. This game is far different than any football game I had ever played to this point. Basically it broke all of the rules that any football game allowed.
The game is set up as like normal with offense, and defense, and with a field, goal-posts, and players. But, that is where all of the similarities come to an end between this game and real football... and I was loving it all the way :)
After the kick-off in the games you start out with 1st down and 30 yards to go to get to the next first down. The offense is fairly easy to run at first, and there are about 15 different plays that you can choose from to try and score. The trick to it all is the special attributes. Players can catch on fire, turbo gets you to go real fast, and passes can be thrown clear down-field. The only bad part is that with a long pass interceptions by the defense are very frequent, so I like to stick with the running game.
The hardest part about this game is kicking field goals. Despite the fact that you can kick one from...say... about 70 yards away, the accuracy is not that great. If you don't use the buttons perfectly, then the kick will go wide-left or wide-right.
If you are on offense though, beware of the post-tackle dance. After pile-driving you to the ground, the opposing players might start chanting at you or laughing at you. Another cool part is that when you tackle someone, wrestling moves are used. From being tossed over the defenders head, to being spun in the air and thrown out of bounds, the game gets really exciting if you have 2 very competitive players going at it.
Personally I like this version of the game a LOT better than the arcade, plus it saves season or game stats for you too! You can either play 1 on 1, have a complete season, or just go up against the computer. I highly recommend this game to any parent who is tired of their kids playing shoot-em-up games.
