panicroom's Full Review: NHL Hitz 2002 for PlayStation 2
Bone Crushing hits, powerful punches, speeding slap shots. What more can you ask from a hockey game. NHL Hitz 2002 is adrenaline hockey, featuring the best hockey gameplay out there. This is one of the most exciting, action packed hockey games ever made because of the huge hits that were never published in any hockey game before. This game takes fighting to a new level with the amazing graphics.
NHL Hitz 2002 is one of the best hockey games ever created(in my opinion). This game has every NHL team there is. The rosters are up to date with the real NHL. The jerseys, stadiums and players are pat down to the smallest details. The players attributes and positions are very similar. This game catches a players bad attributes and captures their good ones and shows it in how they play. For example, someone might be extremely good in shooting, but not be as good in checking. The fans are amazing. This game doesnt have a 2d crowd. These fans are 3d. They clap yell boo and do what real fans do at a hockey game. These fans show you codes used in the beginning of the game. These codes can help you out if you cant win the real way. The stadiums are exactly alike as in real life. Authentic detail is greatly emphasized in this game. The graphics in this game are amazing. As you can see already, the details in this game are amazing. The players looks are almost exactly like they are in real life. It gets it down to their foot size, chin size and calf size. Thats how close it is to the real person. These graphics are pretty good for a hockey game during this time.
The gameplay in this game is very simple. The objective is to score more goals than the other team to win, just like a regular hockey game. It isnt that easy though. There is a twist to this hockey game. This hockey game has hard hits and fights. If you lose in a fight, your person is out for the game and a backup has to come in. You will have to beat every NHL team in championship mode. You get to pick the team you want to play with. There is also franchise mode, where you have to beat all the NHL teams, and beta all the secret teams with the team you made.
There are many modes you can play in NHL Hitz 2002. You can play any of these modes whenever you want. These modes include:
1)Exhibition- This is just a normal hockey game. This is not part of your season or franchise. This is almost like a practice game to get ready for the big ones. This is the mode where you can play in multiplayer. You get to pick any team and any stadium you want(depends on which ones you have). If you win the game, you get valuable credits to use in the hockey shop so you can purchase stadiums, teams, heads jerseys etc. You get to choose in this mode if you want to be home or away. This is just a regular hockey game, practicing or just having fun with your friends.
2)Championship- This is one of the main modes in this game. This mode might take awhile for you if you want to complete all of it. This is where you get to pick one of the NHL teams(or the team you have created) and play every NHL team there is. This is just like a season in any other hockey game. If you beat every NHL team, you bring home the Stanley cup. This is also accessible with more than one player so your friends can help you out with beating every team. This mode also gets you credits for the hockey shop, allowing you to purchase what you want. You are able to change the level of difficulty as you like. There is rookie, pro and all star. All star(if you win) gives you the most credits and rookie gives you the least. I would recommend playing on all star so you can get more credits for the hockey shop.
3)Franchise- This is where you can create your own team. This is one of the best aspects of this game. You get to pick your own jerseys from a very large variety, make your own players on your team, make each player different with their own traits, build up stats for your players to make them better, and pick your own stadium for your team to play all of their home games. Each game you win, you earn 6 points to add to your players on your team however you would like them to be distributed. If this isnt enough, at the end of each game, there is a trivia question. If you get this question right, you get extra points for your team(usually 1 or 2). This is a great deal because if you know a lot about hockey, then that is your reward but if you dont now you can learn more about it. You do not receive credits when in franchise mode. If you would like to create your own players on your team, you can make them look the best my purchasing heads in the hockey shop with you well earned credits.
The controls in this game are excellent. It is very easy to control your player by shooting, passing, spinning and checking. All of these movements are very easy to do. The sound in this game is also very good. From the fans cheering to the puck being shot, everything is great.
In all, NHL Hitz 2002 is a great hockey game to own and wont get you bored.
