I have been playing tennis for several years. I started out playing on our high school team. The first racket that I ever had was one of those $15 rackets from Wal-mart. After I made varsity I decided I would need a new racket to help my performance. I decided to buy a Wilson 5.0 Triad Hammer Tennis Racket because I had used a friends and I liked it. Now I am playing tennis at a junior college and I am still using the awesome racket.
It isnˇ¦t too heavy, weighing only 10 ounces. It is 27.25 inches long. The head size is 98 square inches. Having this small of head size helps you to increase your power and makes a better ˇ§sweet spotˇ¨. This racket dampens the vibration a lot just by its design, but I also have a small rubber shock absorber on the bottom in the strings to help dampen it. This racket is considered a medium-powered racket which means that it is not made for power alone.
For ground strokes this racket is tremendous, it has superior control and helps you to place the ball where you want it. With a smooth motion of a forehand you can crank the ball over for a winner, same with a back hand. It is not the best racket for volleys but it defiantly is not the worst that I have played with. For volleying I prefer a bigger racket head because of the more surface area to hit the ball, however, you must sacrifice some good for some bad. I love serving with this racket, I feel like I can slam the ball and it hits with a good solid POP. The only thing that I donˇ¦t like about this racket is that the strings break quit often, just like any other racket. But it seems to me that it breaks more than usual, but maybe because I hit the ball very hard.
This racket is very comfortable to use, like I said earlier it is not heavy, and it dampens the vibration. The Wilson 5.0 Triad Hammer is for the medium-fast swingers, meaning not for the pros or the first time beginners. I know that the racket doesn't make the player, but the player makes the racket, but this racket will help make the player better. I would recommend this racket to any intermediate player looking for a high-quality comfortable racket to replace their ˇ§Wal-mart specialˇ¨.
