| classic10s's Full Review: Wilson Hammer 6.4 Power Holes |
The Oversize, Stretch Wilson Hammer 6.4 w/Power Holes was the next generation design from the Wilson Hammer family. The Oversize Stretch 6.4 was a little longer, lighter and stronger than the 6.2 and which made for an easy swing that gave you a great combination of control and power. The frame soon became an instant hit. Why? Just ask Serena Williams.
The Power holes (along the side and the bottom of the frame) which are oval slots that allow the strings to move like a mini trampoline combined with the classically designed pin holes (grommets) which locked the string in place, now give the player a little more action out of each swing. This breakthrough design allows the player to swing smoothly without compromising power. Finally, a smooth well-timed swing gave the player a nice slingshot off the racket. At first that was disconcerting because I wanted to create the power with the swing, but then I started to settle into the technology by swinging smoothly, staying with my shot longer, keeping the ball on the strings to my target! It was too good to be true!
Oddly, the Oversize Stretch 6.4 had a better feel than the Regular 6.4. Reason? The larger racket tends to bend around the ball more giving the player the closest feeling to the original woods frames of the past. A player could finally feel the ball again. As you know, most of the newer rackets have a stiff hard feel which jars your body. With Power holes that feel gives a player the best of both worlds: control and power.
Demo it. Test it out in competition. Hit a thousand balls on a ball machine with the racket. And trust me, you'll become a fan. But, and this is the dynamics of the new market place, buy a few now because the racket is going to be phased out for the newer Hypercarbon craze.
Get 'em while you still can. This frame is a throwback to the old days of great feel without compromising any power or control.
