Pros: Tackification leads to easier handling, throwing, and catching. Cost is also very low.
Cons: None identified
The Bottom Line: The cost is great, the tackification helps players young and old, and it's a football... what more could you ask for? Definitely get this ball.
wangarific's Full Review: Wilson NFL Tackified Composite Football F1740
Prior to owning this football, which actually was the first football I've ever purchased, the Wilson name on a ball signified that it had superior handling and superior quality (obvious to anyone who has ever used a Wilson basketball). They label is tackified but I think it's just Wilson's business as usual.
Pros:
It's tackified, which means sticky to the uninitiated, which means it's easy to catch and hold onto. Throwing it is also very easy though takes a little getting used to the extra stick (it's like throwing with a glove on sometimes). It's the official size and the laces are nice and grippy as well, making spirals a cinch. Durability of a football is hard to gauge since the leather is nearly indestructible but the tackification stays on the ball for quite some time. I've used balls that have been two or three years old and they've only lost a little bit of their stick.
Another benefit of the tackification is if you own a younger child and you want them to start using a regulation ball (which they recommend at around age 14), the extra stick will make the ball easier to handle with their smaller hands.
Finally, a huge discriminator, for me anyway, was cost and this ball cost under $20 at Costco.
Cons:
I have yet to identify anything I could consider a con for this ball.
