The Dynamic Duo/Wilson Staff Duo Golf Ball Review
Dec 28, 2011 (Updated Dec 29, 2011)

Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:It's long, soft, slightly clingy, and really holds a line.
Cons:Maybe a little soft feeling off of the wedges. My other clubs absolutely loved it!
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best entrants in this year's over-crowded 2-piece ball market. Definitely worth a try!
Okay,so maybe The Caped Crusader and his faithful sidekick Robin may not be noted golfers. What is noted, however, is that for the past 10 years or so, the mantra of "Long and Soft" has been rammed down our throats ad nauseum. Some balls over the years have lived up to the hype. (The Volvik Crystal and the original Noodle). Others have come in long, but not soft at all (Pinnacle Exception), while others have come in with all the firmness of a marshmallow, and offered up balloon shots that robbed them of any real distance claims (Nike Kharma). Others have offeered up low compression cores, but had rock hard Surlyn covers that robbed them of their soft feel (Top Flight D2 Straight). Their have been some who lived up to the hype, but failed to catch fire (The Pinnacle Dimension.) The New Wilson Staff Duo might very well fall into that latter category if not marketed correctly, or it may very well, similar to it's corporate predecessor 50/50 ball, build a cult following that gains traction and builds a long lived loyal following for several iterations. Here are several reasons why any 2-piece distance lover, or anyone who wants a soft-"Winter Ball" needs to give these a go.

Face it, Wilson has built some incredible balls over the years, but they've also built several makes that never made the cut simply because they offered up only "Average" distance. These babies launch--and I do mean "L-A-U-N-C-H". I do not make this claim lightly either. There are many balls out there that fly off the driver's face and head for the moon, but for some reason or another, they don't hold true with the mid-irons as well. Don't ask me why--there are just too many variables to factor on this one. These balls belie their rather soft--though far from mushy feel that they offer up at impact. These are the next generation 50/50, with a slightly softer feel thanks to the extremely low compression rating of 40. Face it--"40/60" just doesn't market well, and "50/50 The 3rd Iteration" just doesn't take advantage of the potential this ball offers up.
Feel--4 1/2 Stars
These balls feel incredible off of all the clubs. I really liked the feel of The Pinnacle Dimension, and these have that feel, only slightly softer. They also have a bit of a lower launch angle which gives them even more distance than a..believe it or not-- Pinnacle. They have a slight--very slight cling off of the driver's face, and they have an incredible feel off of the mid-irons. The long irons, hybrids, and wedges, also share in this "feel fest." The only reason I'm not giving these a full bore 5 star feel rating has to do with the wedges. The soft clingy feel is great, but unfortunately, it lacks a little crispness that I tend to prefer off of my Lob Wedge. Yes that soft clinginess is ever so important here, but a touch of crispness helps me zero in on the specific spot on the club face where I am striking the ball, and this provides me with the information necessary to repair any faults in my swing du jour. Off the putter, this ball has both that clingy feel, and that muted click I prize so highly. I walked away with a 25 putt round thanks to these. A superior Winter Ball to be sure.
Value --4 Stars
Great balls for $19.95 is becoming common once again, but these are well above average. Still, at $19.95 a dozen I also like The Bridgestone Fix, and a few of the MacGregor Balls being offerd up by Golfsmith, because these are being built for Golfsmith by none other than Srixon. I truly like these Wilsons better than almost all others in the 2-piece category, but I do want to stay objective here. For all intents and purposes, on a dollar for dollar basis, apples to apples, and all that rot, these are a great value as are the others I have mentioned here. I'm just glad that Wilson put another dog into the hunt as the 50/50 was getting a little long in the tooth, and the other Wilson Staff balls that perform this well don't fall into this particular category.
Overall--4 1/2 Stars
These balls are the living example of "Long and Soft." So few of the latest entrants into this category know how to split the difference, but it seems Wilson has found The Goldilocks Mix for "Long and Soft" 2-piece balls. These balls are very long, and very soft, but never mushy. Are they a Pro V1 at 1/2 the price?---Of course not! They are, however, a 2-piece ball, that lands soft, and is best aimed at the middle of the green where they have more than enough room to perform the one-two hop and stop. They won't go bouncing across the green like many others, but they aren't exactly pin seekers either. On these concrete winter greens, one-two hop and stop is a pretty darned good performance. They are a delight off of the Driver, mid-irons, and putter. My wedges were pleased, but not overwhelmed.--A really great 2-piece ball.
I's like to thank my CL Abraham for getting me the link that made this review possible.
