Well it's finally here again. That time of year when we bring out the cookie sheets, cake pans, and cookie cutters, for making all of those mouth watering treats that we all love this time of the year.
I've got a good start on Christmas this year. The outside and inside of my home is already decorated, and my Christmas tree is already up. My shopping is almost done and most of my gifts have already been wrapped.
We all know that Christmas is a festive time, but it can get a little hectic. This is why I always do my Christmas baking after everything else has been done.
A few weeks ago our AC Moore store had a Midnight Madness sale from 6 PM until 12 Midnight. Anything that was regular priced would be 50% off. So off I went and got there promptly at 6 o'clock. I had saw a few baking pans a few days before that I wanted to buy, so I had hoped that they would still be there so I could get my 50% off. Luckily they were there and I did purchase 2 of These Wilton Bite-Size Gingerbread Boy Pans. They were $8.99 each, and I did get them both for 50% off.
WHAT THE PAN LOOKS LIKE:
1)---The pans comes with 9 Gingerbread Boy molds in it.
2)---Each Gingerbread Boy mold measures 2-1/4 inches by 3½ inches by 3/4 inches deep.
3)---The pan is made of a nice quality anodized aluminum.
4)---Comes with easy to follow decorating idea instructions.
THE WILTON GINGERBREAD BOY PAN CAN BE USED TO MAKE SEVERAL KINDS OF GINGERBREAD BOYS.
1)---Brownie Mix Gingerbread Boys.
2)---Rice Crispy Treat Boys.
3)---Gelatin Boys.
4)---Boxed Cake Mix Boys.
5)---Melted Chocolate Candy Boys.
6)---Cookie mix boys.
BROWNIE GINGERBREAD BOYS:
A few weeks ago my grandson had a half a day off from school, and he wanted to help me make some of these Gingerbread boys from a brownie mix that I had. The brownie mix was a 1 lb.-3.9 ounce box.
I first preheated my oven to 350 degrees, and then prepared the pan by spraying it with Pam vegetable oil. I mixed the brownie mix in a bowl according to the directions on the box. I then poured 2 tablespoons of the batter into each Gingerbread mold in the pan. Then I put the pan on the middle rack in my oven, and baked them for 10 minutes. You have to remember, the temperature of all ovens varies. So it's a good idea to check the cookies a few minutes before the 10 minute baking time is up.
After they were done baking, I let them cool for 5 minutes in the pan on my cookie rack. I took a butter knife and gently lifted each Gingerbread boy out of the pan and onto the rack to cool.
After they had cooled my grandson decorated them. I knew he couldn't handle my decorating bag, so I gave him a tube of white Cake Mate frosting that I purchased in the supermarket. All he had to do was squeeze the tube to get the frosting out. He decorated the eyes, nose, mouth, and put 3 dots of frosting on the gingerbread boys belly. He also outlined the whole gingerbread Boys body with the white frosting. They did come out real cute. We finally ended up with 22 Gingerbread Boys from the boxed brownie mix.
Of course we both sat done after and had a Gingerbread Boy cookie with a glass of cold milk.
SUGAR COOKIE MIX GINGERBREAD BOYS:
I had purchased a package of a 1 lb.-1.5 ounce Sugar Cookie mix. I preheated the oven this time to 375 degrees. I followed the directions on the package for mixing the batter. This time I placed 1½ rounded tablespoons of the batter into each ungreased Gingerbread mold, and placed the pan in the oven for 10 minutes. After they had baked I let the pan cool for I minute before removing them from the pan. I took my butter knife and and gently lifted out each boy and turned them upside down on my rack. The bottom of each boy had turned a nice light golden color. I ended up with 12 thick Gingerbread boys.
NOTE:
When filling any batter into the Gingerbread boy molds, make sure that you do use a Baking Tablespoon and not your regular every day tablespoon.
GINGERBREAD BOY TREE ORNAMENTS:
My grandson has a 2 foot Christmas tree that he decorates each year and keeps it in their family room. A few years ago we made tree ornaments together out of Salt Dough. So we decide to make some Gingerbread Boy ornaments for his tree this year.
First of all I set the oven for 300 degrees. I made a salt dough with flour, salt and water. We mixed it very well together until it was just the right consistency., and then let it rest for 5 minutes. I sprayed the Wilton Gingerbread pan with the Pam Vegetable oil very lightly. Then my grandson pressed the dough into each Gingerbread boy mold in the pan. He then took a toothpick and made a hole in each of the Gingerbread boys head, so each boy could be strung and hung on his tree. I watched the cookies carefully before the baking hour was up so they didn't get too dark in color.
After they had baked and had cooled down some I removed each boy from the pan. We made sure that they had cooled completely before my grandson decorated them. He then painted them with some craft paints that I had and decorated them real cute. After the paint had thoroughly dried, he put a ribbon through each hole in all of the Gingerbread boys, so he could hang them on his tree when he got home. One thing here you have to remember that these Salt Dough Gingerbread Boy ornaments are not edible, their only for decorations.
MAKE A FEW CHOCOLATE CANDY GINGERBREAD BOYS OR SOME GELATIN GINGERBREAD BOYS:
You can also melt some Chocolate candy in the microwave and make Chocolate Candy Gingerbread treats, along with Gelatin Gingerbread Boys with this Wilton Pan Gingerbread Pan also. When you make those Rice Crispy treats, try making them in the Wilton Gingerbread Boy Pan. I haven't made any of the chocolate candy Gingerbread boys or the gelatin boys yet, but I do plan on making a batch of each later on before Christmas gets here.
CLEANING:
The Bite Size Wilton Gingerbread Boy Pan does clean up very nicely with hot soapy water. It doesn't state if the pan is dishwasher safe. Actually I don't see why it couldn't be put into a dishwasher.
Baking Christmas cookies gives me a warmth and comfort to our home and also gets me in the mood for the Holidays. Baking cookies is a fun and easy tradition for the Holiday season and making cookies with your children or your grand children has been known to provide many an important bonding ritual between parents or grandparents and children. My grand children always look forward to helping me bake special treats this time of the year.
A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER:
The Wilton Bite Size Gingerbread Boy Pan is a nice way to get the kids started in making Gingerbread Boys, whether it's for eating or hanging on the tree. It'll make a cute gift for your child's teacher, if they help to make one and decorate it them selves. Just place the decorated Gingerbread Boy in a plastic treat bag that can be purchased at most craft stores. Tie the top of the bag off with a nice red ribbon. It's an inexpensive gift that your child will be proud to give to their teacher, and the Wilton Bits-Size Gingerbread Boy pan is the perfect way to make them. So whip up a batch of these Gingerbread Cookies and create some lasting memories today.
Thanks for reading and Happy Cookie Baking!!
