I'm usually the one called on to make desserts for the smaller side of my family's holiday get togethers, and I like to switch it up and bring pies, cakes, and also cupcakes (for the kids) On one of those Christmas get togethers (where we exchange gifts), an aunt gifted me with a Wilton Dessert Holder, figuring it would be something I'd like. I actually did like it, and thought it was very thoughtful. I even got to use it the next day, with the other side of the family.
The Wilton Cupcakes 'N More Dessert Holder can be found wherever Wilton products are sold. It retails for little over $30, and it can even be bought directly from Wilton's website. I've been wanting a cupcake holder, but could never pick one that I liked that much. I hadn't seen this is any stores nearby, but if I had, I would have chose a Wilton because I think so highly of their other products. There's a bit of assembly involved, but it is super easy. There are three locking rods, one for each of the bulk layers, that have to be put into place. There are direction included, but it is pretty easy to see how to put it together, without them.
Once together, it measures 12" tall, and and 13" wide. It has a silver finish, and is really whimsical in it's design, with spirals as the cupcake holders, and as the feet of the stand.
Technically, there are 4 tiers to this cupcake holder, but I think more of it as a three tier cupcake holder with a topper. It's because the bottom layer holds the bulk, with 10 cupcake holders. The second tier has 8 holders, the third having four holders. But, the "tier" on top, it only has room for one, and is situated where it it stands dead center, as if the cupcake would be "the topper" to this confection tower.
When this cupcake stand is full of cupcakes, it always reminds me of a Christmas tree, so now I have a habit of using it with green frosted cupcakes during the Christmas Holidays. I put little sprinkles or candies on the icing to resemble Xmas tree lights or decorations. The top cupcake, I always make a little star out of sugar glaze, dyed yellow, and stick it in the icing so that it sticks up like a tree topper. If I do anything special with others during any other holiday, I like to bring it out and use colors that are traditional to that holiday. (For instance, black and orange for Halloween, red and pink for Valentin's Day, pastels for Easter).
The cupcakes go into the holders easily, and haven't threatened to fall out, with me. It grips the cupcakes at angles, so that the cupcakes are tilted frosting-side-out, but only slightly so. And, the wire holders are gripping them high enough up on the outer side that they wouldn't fall out unless it was deliberately done.
Of course this can hold more than cupcakes. I've used it with muffins, and cookies, but nothing else so far.
Sometimes it gets frosting on it, but I just wipe it down and dry it off. I imagine like any other object made of this material, it could eventually rust, so I always dry it after cleaning it (by hand). As far as storage, I take it apart and keep it in a box when not in use. I think the cupcake holder is pretty. I think it looks a lot better, as far as presentation, to use this to put my cupcakes out there than by using the flat rectangular portable cake tote that I was using before. It's well made and doesn't fall over even if the treats aren't even on each side. I would recommend it to anyone needing an item like this.
