What made you buy the Wilton Elmo face cake pan and where did you get it?

My wife purchased the Wilton Elmo face cake pan on line at the Ebay web site. She paid only $8.00 for it brand new. I forget what the shipping cost was at this point. She bought the pan because my son was about to turn two years old. For his first birthday she made Barney and she needed a pan to make him an Elmo one. This would be more special to him since he has become pretty fond of the Elmo Character from Sesame Street.

What does it look like? Is it made well?

The Wilton Elmo face cake pan is made pretty well. It is aluminum all the way through. It is very easy to clean, and yes it is dish washer safe as well. Needless to say this most likely but it is not microwave safe. This cake pan can with stand temperatures of up to 400 degrees with no problem. I am not sure if it can handle higher then that we just used that as the highest setting one time.

This pan is in the perfect shape of Elmo's head. The fuzzy face effect at the sides and of course the large eyes that flow just above face level on Elmo. The out come is great. The pan should be properly greased and the cake should be cooled for a few minutes before flipping the pan to release the cake. I find that the best way is to use a spatula to loosen the sides before you flip it over to make sure the cake is not stuck on any end. Although we have had no issues with it at all doing that.

The measurements on this pan are 13 1/2 X 10 1/2 X 2 in size. That is a pretty good sized cake. We fed 14 people large slices of cake. We could have fed two dozen if we cut smaller and had more guests. Just think of the money you could save making cakes at home. Not only that but my wife made a few for our kid's school for a PTO meeting and they all got a big kick out of it.

Did the cake turn out good?

It sure did. In fact, we have used it a few times just for fun since then. Both my wife and I have used it. The funny thing is that the face of Elmo is pretty close to the face of the Sesame Street character Zoe that our daughter happens to like so we made her a Zoe with it for her dance recital night to celebrate because it was her first one that she did. The Elmo birthday cake really impressed our toddler. He loved it. He was picking at Elmo's eye faster then we could cut the cake though. The cake fell right out of the pan with ease every time that we have used it.

Would you recommend this pan?

I really could say that I would recommend it. You can make a professional bakery looking cake at home for a fraction of the cost. Grab yourself a tube of red, white and black frosting and you are good to go. Or if you are doing Zoe with it you can use orange, white, black and pink for her hair bows. I know that as a guy I should not get exited over a cake pan. But my kids mean a lot to me and seeing them exited over this makes us happy.

This pan is simple to clean. It pretty much wipes clean to be honest about it. I don't have a dish washer at my house, so my wife and I take turns with dished and both she and I agree that hand washing this pan is very simple to do. It is perfectly shaped, thick and well made. There is nothing I could say in a negative light about it. I would recommend buying one.
