Pros:Just a fun fun addition to any party!
Cons:None that I could find!
The Bottom Line: Easy enough for not only an adult to make, but your child can help too! These flowers make a great addition to any table.

Although my daughter’s eighth birthday was almost a month ago, we did just celebrate with her friends last weekend with a pizza party, and … a trip to the movies to the see the newly released Lizzie McGuire Movie. Trust me, according to my daughter and her friends, it was worth the wait!

As some of you may already know, I enjoy creating my daughter’s birthday cakes each year. This year was no different. When I couldn’t find the Wilton cake pan that I really wanted to use I opted to go with the same Wilton Flower Power Cake Pan that I used for her party last year. As I mentioned in my review for the Wilton Cake Sparkles I did add an extra something special that I didn’t do last year. But … I still found myself wanting to add something a bit more special to this party that I did not have last year. So, it was back to my favorite craft store (Michael’s Craft Store) to find this something special. I was not disappointed. While I was walking the Wilton section at Michael’s I spotted the perfect thing! What was it? It was the Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold. Yes! I was going to make some chocolate flower lollipops for my daughter’s big event.

~ Am I out of my mind? ~

Actually, no … I am out of my mind! While the finished product shown on the colored insert of this Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold may be somewhat intimidating, to actually make these chocolate lollipops is quite easy. Yes, it does tend to get a little messy and perhaps to some, a bit time consuming, if you had seen the expressions of those thirteen girls faces when the finished product was displayed on the table, you too would feel that it was well worth the time!

~ What all did I need to complete this candy project? ~

After I decided that the special something was going to be chocolate lollipops in the form of a flower, I grabbed what other items that I would need to complete this candy-making project. Those items were (including the lollipop mold):

~ The Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold

~ Wilton Candy Melts (14 oz. Bags) One bag of yellow, and one bag of pink.

~ Wilton Disposable Decorating Bags (Note that you can also use a Ziplock bag.)

~ Wilton Lollipop Sticks (6 inch) (You may elect to use a smaller or larger stick)

~ Scissors

I found all of the above items, with the exception of the scissors that I already had at home, at my Michael’s Craft store. (Make sure to check your local paper for coupons that can be used at Michael’s.) After I had hand washed the Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold with warm soapy water and made sure that it was completely dried, it was time to create! While I can’t find any instructions on cleaning this mold, I would suggest to hand wash only. I don’t think that this mold would hold up in the dishwasher.

~ Roll up your sleeves because it is now time to create! ~

I am going to share with you how I made the chocolate lollipops for my daughter’s birthday. If you want further decorating ideas, located on the Wilton insert inside this mold are suggestions on how to “paint” different candies using a decorating brush. Wilton also gives suggestions on how to make the different colors shown on the front side of the insert. Since my daughter’s birthday cake was hot pink with bright yellow, I choose to use the Wilton Candy Melts that were available in the colors pink and yellow.

Okay, so lets create!

~ Step One ~ I deposited half a bag of Wilton Candy Melts (yellow) into one Witlon Disposable Decorating Bag. Using my microwave to melt the chocolates I carefully watched to make sure that the chocolate did not get too hot. While my microwave may be different from yours, I will share that I melted in the microwave for 2 minutes at an 80 % power level. I checked after the first minute to make sure that it still required another minute of melting time. You want the chocolate to be melted, but … not so hot that you can’t hold onto. Hopefully this makes sense! Once it had melted I squeezed the chocolate together to kind of mesh it together.

~ Step Two ~ I made sure that my Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold was lying flat on my kitchen counter. I then took my scissors and cut the end tip off of my Wilton Disposable Decorating Bag. This now allows me to release small amount of chocolate into the mold.

~ Step Three ~ I knew that I was going to have a yellow center to my flowers and that the flower petals were going to be pink. So, the first step I needed to do was release a small portion of yellow chocolate into the center of the mold. (Note: There are ten flower patterns on this mold. The Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold on the Wilton web site says nine.) After each center had yellow in it I placed the mold tray inside the refrigerator on a flat surface until the chocolate has firmed. Because this was a small amount, it only took about 10 minutes until I could proceed with the next color. It was during this time that I melted the next color (pink) of Wilton Candy Melts.

~ Step Four ~ After the centers of the flowers were firmed nicely it was time for me to add the remaining color (pink) to the flowers. I made sure that I had opened my bag of Wilton Lollipop Sticks and set to the side 10 of the lollipop sticks. I squeezed the pink chocolate into one of the ten flower patterns on the mold. You will want to pour a blob (I know, a very technical term!) inside the pattern, grab a lollipop stick and place one end of from the center of the flower outwards. On this Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold you will notice that there is a section already cutout on the mold for the lollipop sticks to lye in. After I had the lollipop stick in place I then took a spoon and smoothed out the chocolate. You will want to make sure that you lightly tap this mold on your counter. This will help to remove the air bubbles. And yes, it really does. After you have completed this process for the remaining flower patterns, place in the refrigerator until the chocolate is firm. Because I was in the midst of doing other party preparations as well, I let the chocolate firm up in the refrigerator for half an hour. I know that when I made chocolate hearts at a Valentine’s Day party one year in my daughter’s class (one color chocolate) it only took about 10 minutes to firm up.

~ Step Five ~ Now it was time to release the chocolate flowers from my mold. Talk about easy! I simply had to pop out each flower. In fact, a couple of the flowers were coming out of the tray as I was bringing the mold tray to the kitchen counter. I personally made thirty chocolate flower lollipops for this party. I even switched the colors (Pink centers with yellow petals) for one set of ten. I just made sure to clean and dry the mold after each use.

~ See! I told you that it was easy to do! ~

Let me tell you, these girls loved their flower chocolate lollipops. And I kid you not that several Moms wanted to know where I had purchased them. The Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold was such a cheap yet fun investment for the $2.29 that I paid for it. It is easy to store this mold since it is only 11 inches in height and nearly 6 inches in width. The depth of this mold is around ½ an inch thick, so … as you can tell it stores quite easily. Plus, this mold is made out of a clear plastic. With ceramic floors in my kitchen, I love the fact that it is plastic.

In case you are wondering, each flower lollipop measures at nearly a ½ inch in depth and is about 1 ¾ inches in width all the way around. So, as you can tell, while it is not a large lollipop it is a nice size. Especially when it was complimenting the birthday cake.

I would highly recommend this Wilton Flower Power Lollipop Mold to anyone. It was a relatively cheap addition to the birthday festivities and was really a hit with the girls. The chocolate was quite yummy. And … don’t think that this is just something that the adult has to make. No way! Both of my children love helping me make chocolate candies. And, as I mentioned above, I have even done this cooking project with a group of twenty kids. They loved it!
