Pros:Cute design, great for anything "on a stick".
Cons:Expensive, only 12 per package.
The Bottom Line: These would be a lot nicer if they weren't .17 cents a piece!

As of late I have started to get more and more concerned with the kids that are here during the summer. Two of them have food allergies so I am on pins and needles watching them with snacks and if they stay for lunch. I got the somewhat bright idea of tagging things; it started off with putting snacks in boxes with labels on the front. We started out with "peanut free" and "dairy free" and before I knew it there were seven boxes and things started getting complicated. Stickers worked well but if they were outside with squirt guns the ink would run and I'd have to play detective to see who could eat what safely. That's where these tags came in. Oh, it seemed like such a great idea at the time but when I did the math on them, there was no way I was going to fork out twenty dollars over the run of three months just to put cute whimsical name tags on things.
If you are judging these just on looks, they are attractive and thicker than I expected them to be. The star pattern is crisp and clean but the edges of the banner that comes off the tail end of it does get dented easily. Slipping the tag on to a lollipop stick isn't hard and you can do the whole dozen in a matter of minutes. These work best with the paper sticks, if you use the plastic ones they slide all over the place so you may have to use a small piece of tape to secure them in place. Same thing goes for Pixie Stix; the will fit but they will also move around a little. The biggest perk to the star pattern is that it is made up of blue and yellow, two very popular color combinations for sport teams. If you are planning a party or making snacks for a game with those colors, these can save you some time when it comes to labeling anything "on a stick".
There are currently three designs in the Lollipop Tag series:
Pennant: 1904-1088 - Star: 1904-1089 - Flower: 1904- 1071
Getting these for a party makes sense but doesn't save you cents. They are packaged in lots of twelve and sell for $2.09 at the Wilton Online Store. For that price I can print up my own and use a hole puncher to make the top and bottom hole for the stick to slide through. Even so, I liked the design and wanted to give them a try. They are a little thicker than I expected but in this case, its a good thing that they are. When you get them they are flat so you have to bend them just a little to slide the stick through. That is part of what keeps them in place and from sliding down or falling off. If you are working with thinner sticks you may hae to use a piece of tape to hold it in place.
When are these worth buying? First off, if you have a child with food allergies or is going a GF/CF diet, you can label them in a matter of seconds so no one else eats them. Likewise, if you are making lollipops or suckers for parties you can have each child's name on the front and a printed sticker on the back with the ingredients in case parents want to double check to make sure everything is cool. You can use these for gift tags too; just use ribbon or a metallic twist tie and attach it to whatever you are giving. The back side of the tag is blank so you can write a long message on it or apply a sticker. If kids want to get in on the mix they can break out the crayons and write their own message on the back. As long as they don't get the crayon point stuck in the hole, they shouldn't have any problems with these tags.
Like a lot of the Wilton products, this isn't a necessity but it is something that is nice to have around for special occasions. I got them simply out of curiosity to see if they were something that I could use during the summer for water bottles and drink containers. I had the bright idea of laminating them then punching holes in them and then using ribbon or elastic string to put them on the drink when the kids are outside. I'll have to see how they hold up or if it was just another great idea that went straight down the drain. The Lollipop Tags are cute but with an average price of about seventeen cents a piece, it might be easier to make your own.
On a side note, these tags can be used for almost anything "on a stick" like cookies or Push-Up frozen treats. They will not work on flat popsicle sticks or on corn dogs. Much to the dismay of Tommy, he can not have a personalized corn dog because the holes on the tags are round and far too small to accommodate the stick.
Please note, the image shown here is for the star shaped lollipop tag. You are only getting the tag, not the cute smiley face lollipop.
