| ilovecake70's Full Review: Wilton Mini Wonder Mold |
I love to bake and when I can find a pan that does more than one thing then I consider it a hit on my baking pan list. The Wilton Mini Wonder Mold is fast climbing the top of my list.
Pan
The Wilton Mini Wonder Mold is 10 x 10 inches. The pan comes with 4 mini molds that are 3 inches deep. These molds are a smaller version of the Classic Wonder Mold. The pan is aluminium and is somewhat heavier than other Wilton Character Cake Pans. As with any Wilton Cake pan be sure to wash it prior to the first use with some warm soapy water to remove the film on it. To prep your pan for baking I either use spray oil with some flour tossed in it or Baker's Release. I don't use butter, margarine or liquid oil to do my pans because they cause the cake to stick which is not something you want when making a mold. Never leave any shiny spots on your mold either when prepping it. I don't use the prepackage cake mixes but if you do then it will take a 2 layer cake mix depending on the brand. Most 2 layer cake mixes will produce between 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 cups of batter. Each mold will hold 2/3 cup of batter. Now the only downside of The Wilton Mini Wonder Mold is it can sometimes be somewhat of a balancing act when placing it in the oven due to the bottom of the pan. After baking I usually allow between 15 to 20 minutes cooling time before releasing from mold. This allows the cake to cool and is easier to work with when trimming the tops.
Decorating
My most favorite part of the process!!! This pan will produce 4 mini wonder molds so you can get really creative. Depending on what you make I usually figure out between 2 to 3 cups of frosting for each mold. I have done the following with these:
Clowns Bridal party (use the Classic Wonder Mold for the bride) Fairies Mini Castles Little Princesses (use the Classic Wonder Mold for the birthday princess) Adult theme cake for a bachelor party & for a friend who got implants Easter Eggs (attach 2 of the molds together) Easter Rabbits Santa Hats Winter Hats
Cost
Normally this is about $12 in most stores. Michael's and Hobby Lobby usually have coupons for 40% to 50% off on merchandise. I pick up the doll picks there also for usually under $5.
Overall
The possiblities are really endless with this type of mold. Just have fun with it. No matter what you choose to do, you always get to eat it in the end-yummy!!!!
