| sblaydes's Full Review: Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cup 415-392 |
When I got word of my daughters classroom Holiday party at school I quickly made a phone call to see what I could bring in for the party. This year my daughters teacher wanted to keep things nice and simple
pizza, drink and dessert. While the Room Mother was going to originally go with store bought cookies just for convenience sake, it just didnt sound right to me. When I offered to make cupcakes for the party she was thrilled. Im sure that it was just the mere fact that one item was taken off of her list of things to do during the busy Holiday season.
Since many religions are practiced in my daughters classroom, I wanted to try and find a baking cup that did not celebrate any one religion. When I spotted the Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cups at JoAnn Fabrics, I new that I had found a winner. Living in a warm climate where the chances of snow are slim (extremely slim) to none, I figured that the kids would get a real kick out of the snowflakes. Then when I spotted the Wilton Petite Snowflake Icing Decorations that coordinate with these baking cups, I quickly tossed them into my shopping cart. As soon as my daughter got home from school I showed her the purchased I had made. She immediately approved of these fun baking cups and could not wait to help me bake!
~ Look! Its snowing! ~
The Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cups come in a package of 50 standard size baking cups. Finding these baking cups on a shelf packed full of other backing cups is a breeze since the come in a clear plastic package. In case you were wondering, the standard size is a 2 inch diameter. The standard size baking cup is the size that I most use when baking cupcakes or muffins. If I dont use the entire 50 baking cups at one time, which I never have, I find storing them easy. I simply place my remaining baking cups inside one another and stack them on the shelf and place them in my cupboard.
As with all other Wilton baking cups that I have used over the years I have found the quality of this baking cup to be quite high. Each baking cup has a waxy texture to it when you pick it up. I can only assume that this is why my batters do not stick (very much) to these baking cups. They are also microwaveable. There are many occasions in which we re-heat a muffin for breakfast or dinner. Each time this baking cup looks just as good as it did coming right out of the package.
The Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cups come with a base color of white. The design of purple snowflakes (several sizes) and grayish silver dots and curly queues are seen throughout this pattern. There are few things that I would like to point out about these baking cups. First, is if you are using a chocolate batter; you will be able to see the color of the finished cupcake through this backing cup. It was very evident that I had made white cupcakes when looking at the finished product in this baking cup. While this most likely would not bother a classroom full of third graders, it may bother someone else. Why? Because you would not be too able to fully see the design on this baking cup. My second problem, though minor, is that while the snowflakes on these baking cups are purple in color, the snowflake decorations for the top that you can purchase (separately) are more bluish in color. I just would have liked to have seen the colors of these two items more similar. Would it stop me from purchasing these baking cups again? Probably not.
I should also note that if you are looking at the Wilton On-Line Store for these baking cups, Wilton refers to them simply as the Snowflake Baking Cups. (http://www.wilton.com/wiltonos/default.asp?search=search&nProd=3641&nCat=151&itemno=415-393) I highly recommend taking at look at the Wilton On-Line Store when you have a chance. There are many ideas just lurking on this site for future baking projects!
~ Did the kids enjoy these cupcakes? ~
Yes! This classroom full of third graders thought that the Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cups made some pretty awesome cupcakes.
What did I think? First of all, the price was right. While these baking cups originally go for $1.49, JoAnn Fabrics had them on sale for 30% off. I am a sucker for a sale. Second, I thought that the design was cute and really fit the bill in keeping a fun dessert that was not offensive to any religion. Plus, since we do not have snowy winters I really thought that the kids would get a kick out of it.
While I would normally give Wilton baking cups five out of five stars, I am only giving these Wilton Snowflake Standard Bake Cups four out of five stars simply because of the two facts I mentioned above. Four out of five stars isnt bad
and, I surely wouldnt find myself never wanting to make this purchase again.
