| Freak369's Full Review: Wilton Spooky Green Halloween Candy Melts |
Most of the time when I am making candy with plastic molds I use basic milk chocolate. I will splurge for the Wilton Candy Melts when I need a specific color or come across it on sale but most of the time I stick with the cheaper chocolate in case it gets burned or scorched. When I saw that Wilton added two new Halloween themed chocolates I wanted to try them to see if they melted any easier than the other seasonal chocolates that I had purchased from them in the past. This is a nice, spooky and eerie green that you can use for ghosts, witches, clouds, monsters and other creepy items. Since most people are only going to use a few pieces at a time for detail inside of a mold, the Candy Melts will last a long time. If you have worked with other Candy Melts then you will know how to melt these. You can do it one of two ways; microwaving it is the quickest way but there is a chance that you can burn it if you aren't watching the time and stirring it often. A double boiler method works well but you could run in to trouble if the steam causes condensation because any water that gets in the chocolate will ruin it. If you are only melting a few pieces to use to make smiles or add accents to items because you pour in the fill amount of chocolate [the fill amount is what makes up the bulk of the chocolate] then you can use a small ramekin or plate then use a clean paint brush or toothpick to add the melted green chocolate to the inside of the candy mold. It is easy to burn Candy Melt pieces because of their size; the best way to handle it is to stir it often and if microwaving it, use five or ten second intervals. This works a lot better for Halloween themed chocolate for candy pieces or lollipops than regular green or grass green colors. It has a nice creepy eerie green color to it and even if you are doing a background fill with a brown milk chocolate you will still get a great look from this Spooky Green color. I did make a few ghosts using Spooky Green for the whole fill and it looked good but it was a little too heavy on the color; I added a couple of black dots for eyes but the green color was still a little too intense for the ghost. This is best used as an accent color or something that add depth to a piece rather than using it for the whole entire piece of candy in a mold. These do not have a mint flavoring to them but you can add some to the chocolate if you want but if you are only using this in small amounts the mint flavoring could be overly strong. Spooky Green Halloween Candy Melts look great with green and brown colored chocolate; this is one of the coolest colors I have come across to make the facial details on pumpkins especially if you are using a strong orange color for the fill. If you want to make a Halloween scene that is completely edible you can use the Spooky Green Candy Melts to make blades of grass, a fill in for windows, accents on signs or tombstones and to add a nice touch of spookiness to ghosts, ghouls and monsters. This also looks excellent if you drizzle it over zombie or mummy cookies; you can use it instead of white for ripped pieces of clothing or a mummy wrap. It is an easy project and something that kids can do but you do have to put down a piece of aluminum foil or parchment paper and do the drizzling on a cookie rack. Any chocolate that hits the aluminum foil or parchment paper can be saved and used again with other projects. When I went to the Wilton Online Store to check on these they were sold out a few times; I have no idea if they are going to carry this specific color year round at the website but local stores that sell them like Michaels and Super Wal-Mart won't have them except for the Halloween season. If you get a bag of these and end up with a lot of left over chocolate you can seal the bag to preserve it and store it some place cool and dry. I have had Candy Melts chocolate that I have used a few times, stored away then used the following year without any problem. Since I only plan on using Spooky Green for accenting pieces and painting in a few layers on ghosts it isn't going to make much difference in regards to taste. ================== ^V^ © 2009 Freak369 ^V^ ================== Candy Molds Tombstone, Mini Ghost & Pumpkin, Mini Gingerbread, Smiley Face, Stars, Rubber Ducky, Truffles, Hearts, Bride And Groom, Wedding Bells, "Summer Fun", Halloween Candy Making Kit, Ice Cream, Ocean Life, Leaves, Bewitched Magical Hats, Creepy Tombstones, Mini Leaves, Bewitched Magical Hats, Bizarre Bats & Wicked Witches, Terrifying Tombstones Lollipop Molds Fright Night, Dancing Skeletons, Just Batty, Hanukkah, Snowman, Roses And Buds, Twinkling Trees, Gifts Galore, Snowflake, Spiders & Webs, Flower Power, Hoppy Easter, Holiday Ornaments, Halloween Lollipop Kit, Harry Potter Lollipop Kit, Sea Creatures, Happy Haunters, Angels, Shamrock, Dancing Daisies, Scarecrow, Harvest
