| Freak369's Full Review: Wilton Standard Snowman Baking Cup 415-2011 |
Some people look at holiday baking as a chore, for me it's cheap therapy. Wilton wasn't always one of my top picks when it came to baking cup and liners; I scoffed at the prices on them and it wasn't until necessity forced me to buy them that I realized that paying a couple cents more for them was well worth it. One thing that continually irks me about Wilton is that they discontinue things without a moments notice; one minute it is at the website the next it's gone. That's sort of the way things are looking for this particular snowman design; as of late it has been out of stock and there isn't an update as to when it will become available at the website. Thankfully I ordered mine early and know of a couple local stores that have these, or at least they did the last time I was there!
Wilton Snowman Baking Cup 415-2011
If cute is what you are after then look no farther than this very festive and colorful baking cup. It's loaded with snowmen, hats, mittens and strings of lights and had a lot of different colors in the designs. That might sound like a big deal but it is if you are someone that wants to have everything color coordinated. You can bake pretty much anything in them but if you are using a vegetable oil, there may be some grease marks on the bottoms and sides when you take them out of the oven. Wilton claims that these are grease resistant but I really have to argue that selling point because any time I have used a boxed cake mix to make cupcakes and the recipe has called for vegetable oil, I have ended up with grease spots on the liners. These are a plain paper type of cup so if you are after the ones that are metallic or have a foil accent to them, look for the Shimmering Snowmen design. These will fit most all standard muffin and cupcake pans and there is also a mini version available in case you want to make something in a tart pan.
Outside of baked treats these are great if you want to serve up small amounts of treats but don't want to end up with a thousand small bowls floating around the house. Grab one of your cupcake baking pans, toss in the miners and fill them with treats. Unless you are throwing chips or something greasy in them you will be able to refill the liners all night long so you can have a bit more fun at your party and spend less time in the kitchen. Since these have a mostly white color to them they are something that doesn't 'clutter' up a treat tray. Most of the seasonal liners you'll come across have busy patterns or designs to them and some of them are gawd awful. One of my favorite things to do with this one is to make snowball cookies and plop them into these liners. Sure you don't need to serve cookies in liners but it helps keep all the powdered sugar from getting all over the place. Need help getting rid of what's left in snack bags? Grab a big bowl, toss everything in [peanuts, pretzels, Chex cereal etc] and pour some melted white chocolate over it then spoon it into the liners. It might not look that great but trust me, the combination of the salt from the nuts and the crunch from the peanuts and pretzels is simply mouthwatering.
These aren't expensive at all, a package of 50 will cost you about $1.50 at most stores like Wal-Mart and Target but be forewarned, not all stores carry this particular design. You can order it at the Wilton Online Store but unless they are running a promotion you are going to end up haying shipping and handling. Jo-Ann Fabrics and Michaels are great places to start looking for these but this year I am having trouble finding this design. Smaller specialty stores may have these but chances are you are going to end up paying twice as much for them. Sure you can get cheaper ones but I bet they aren't going to have this cute design so spend the extra couple of cents and ensure that your treats look as good as they taste.
The Bottom Line
Cupcake liners, baking cups, muffin sleeves
what ever you choose to call them
these are some of the most colorful ones I've come across from Wilton without them being something that takes away from the look of your baked goods. These are great for people that want to have something homemade but not look plain. Add some sprinkles to the top after you frost them and they look awesome. Likewise, these are politically correct since they contain no traditional Christmas themes so if you have children attending public schools and the word "Christmas" is prohibited, these can be used for them if they are having a 'holiday party'. For about a dollar fifty you are getting some really nice looking baking cups that can be used for more than just the run of the mill batch or two of cupcakes!
As always, thanks for the visit
