The Bottom Line: Stay here when visiting/leaving Greenville! You deserve it! The staff make it truly unlike anyplace I have ever stayed. You'll leave happy & ready to come back :)

My visit to the Wingate may be influenced by the reason for the visit but it was a wonderful place to stay. We decided to stay here for our wedding night for a few reasons. We had a 5:45am flight out of GSP the next morning and few hotels provide a free shuttle at that hour. The pictures I found on the net of the hotel were beautiful (we live 45 minutes away). Finally, time2fly2002's review sealed the decision.
Don't waste time surfing the net for the best room rate. Wingate guarantees there is no lower rate. Their website states; "If you find a rate lower than Wingateinns.com's best available rate that is viewable and bookable on another web site for the same hotel, same room type, same number of guests and for the same dates, in the same currency, and advise Wingate Inns within 24 hours after booking your room on Wingateinns.com, Wingate Inns will honor the competing rate plus give you an additional 10% discount off that rate." This is a really nice convenience to me because I am one who will search the net until I am exhausted to make sure I get the best possible price when traveling. For this reason alone whenever I travel I will look to see if there is a Wingate Hotels.
We did not arrive until a little after midnight and 3 cheerful employees greeted us. They did not know we were newly married because we had changed clothes before going to the hotel. I would have expected that kind of attention had they known we were just married but they treated us special before they knew. I was very impressed with the staff. I truly cannot say enough about the staff.
Walking into the marble lobby is very impressive. It is very open & huge it has a very grand atmosphere. I remember thinking did I couldn't have gotten our room here for the price I did. It was definitely a jaw dropping experience as stated. Check in was quick & smooth. After arranging a wake-up call (like how much time would we have to sleep...LOL) we were off to our room. We did have a slight problem opening our door and when my husband went down a man came right back with him and helped us to a new room. The room was huge with all new furnishings and very clean. It was definitely more upscale then I expected for the price. I would think those with the highest standards would be very happy here.
Now, the part I think was well above and beyond in service. About 20 minutes after our wake-up call there was a knock on the door. It was the shuttle driver who came to pick up our bags and let us know if we hurried we would have time to have a bite to eat downstairs. I said I thought the continental breakfast didn't start until 6am. He said they went ahead and set it up so we could have something to eat before our long journey for that day. What a really nice way to send a honeymoon couple off! The continental breakfast was great! All the basics like cereal & such plus some things you usually don't see like fresh fruit, warm sausage biscuits, and delicious muffins. They did not mind I took a muffin & banana for a snack for later.
The shuttle driver is a real asset to the hotel. He was very professional & courteous. I felt like he was happy with his employment. We had an interesting conversation about the restaurants in the area for our return.
One last thing, in the previous review it was stated the location as a con. I did not find this a problem. There were an abundance of restaurants nearby, it is situated beside the interstate (but far enough not to here the noise) between the two cities of Greenville & Spartanburg, and is a stone's throw from the airport. No it is not a downtown hotel but neither is its price.
Like I said, it may be because we were just married and our stay was very short but I truly don't think so. Perhaps, we will get a chance to do a follow up for our 1st anniversary :) because our time here was too short!
