Pros:Fun, useful, inexpensive, sturdy, stackable, won't rust, make great gifts
Cons:Could be a bit wider, fine for kids, and small to average adults.
The Bottom Line: These inexpensive sleds are lots of fun for the whole family. It is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while having fun with your family.
Sledding is a fun family activity for the wintertime, and can be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages. It is a great way to promote physical activity in your children, and to get some fresh air and exercise for yourself as well. I remember going sledding as a child, and always had a blast. We would take all of our sleds and toboggans out to a nearby hill and all ride down as fast as our sleds could carry us, then climb back to the top of the hill and go again. We would spend hours sledding down the big hills, then go back home for sloppy joes, hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies.

The tradition was carried on with my own children, although we had a mix of some of the more modern sleds, along with some of the old fashioned ones from my childhood. Instead of so many of the old-time wooden sleds with metal runners and wooden toboggans, we had progressed to adding plastic sleds and saucers to the mix.
My grandchildren are now joining in the fun too, and the Pancon Flexible Flyer Winter Lightning Sleds are a great way to enjoy the winter. These sleds glide smoothly down the hills, and each can carry one or two, and possibly even 3 passengers, depending on size. My son can easily ride down the hill with his 2 year-old daughter, who is too little to steer the sled by herself yet. My daughter, who is a bit smaller, can fit two of her daughters on the sled with her, or they can ride by themselves on the smaller hills.
They are made in the USA, of sturdy molded plastic with built-in handle grips. Although it does not come with a rope for pulling it back up the hill, you can easily tie a rope to the handle grips for easy pulling. Even without the rope though, these are very lightweight and easy to carry. They are also easy to transport to and from the sledding hill because they stack neatly together, to take up much less space in your car.
These sleds are 48 inches long by about 18 inches wide. This is wide enough for most children, as well as many adults. It is a bit of a snug fit for some of us though, especially once we get bundled up for chilly winter weather. These sleds are tough enough to hold up to most anything that the kids have dished out. They are even sturdy enough for the adults who have used them, holding upwards of 200 pounds without a problem.
You can buy them individually for around $10 each, or you can buy them in multiples and save money. These sleds come in bright assorted colors such as red, green, orange, black and blue. These make wonderful Christmas gifts and can be found at your local Ace Hardware Store, or from several sources online.
Although these are recommened for ages 3 and up, as the name implies, these sleds are made to go fast, so be sure to take the slope of the hill into concideration when deciding whether or not your child should be accompanied by an adult. Younger children should either be taken down a more gradual slope, or accompanied by an adult to insure their safety.
Since these sleds have grooves molded into the bottom, they do well at traveling in a fairly straight path down a hill. It is a good idea to make sure that your children know how to steer the sled before letting them go by themselves though, especially if there are any type of obstacles nearby. Crashing sleds into rocks, trees, or other sledders can not only damage your sled, but can also cause injuries to your children.
These also work great for pulling children around on level ground. When my kids were little, I used to pull them to the store in the sled, pick up a few groceries and pull them back. It worked quite well for this too.
Having several of these sleds on hand works out great when all the kids and grandkids get together, or when friends come over to join us on a sledding trip. Even if you don't have a use for so many sleds though, these are a great item to donate to charities such as Toys for Tots, a local church, or a needy family in your area.
