michaeljhuman's Full Review: Wireless 2.4ghz A/V Transmitter and Receiver Syste...
I wanted to run zone audio/video from my Yamaha receiver in the living room to another Yamaha receiver in the bedroom. I live in an apartment, so wiring was not really an option.
I was led to believe I might have issues with a 2.4 Ghz unit, but the price was not to high, so I ordered one from Amazon.
The box comes with a transmitter unit, a receiver unit, power supplies (wall warts) for both of them, some IR cables, a manual, two sets of AV cables and some mounting accesories. I found the whole package a great deal for the price, but I had some performance issues, see below.
The manual is surprisingly useful. I suggest any buyer actually read it. Not reading it led to a problem when I did not think to check which unit was the transmitter and which was the receiver :)
Once I figured that out, I also needed to hook up a cable to send IR signals to my living room receiver. The provided cable has an IR emitter which I did not need.
Instead, I plugged a male to male mini cable I had to the Terk transmitter and into the Yamaha. In this way, IR signals received by the Terk receiver were sent to the Terk transmitter unit and then to the Yamaha. I could then control the Yamaha receiver while in the bedroom.
Once I got it all hooked up, I had to set the channel. This is a bit of a pain involving running back and forth to set both Terk units to the same channel. There are 4 channels and D worked best.
I was able to rotate the antennas to point at each other as directed by the manual.
Unfortunately, there was still some static. The cause could be mine own wireless network which also runs in the 2.4 Ghz frequency band. You might want to look at the higher 5 Ghz units if you have a wireless network.
I still had a lot of static, and I tried raising the bedroom Terk receiver unit and that helped. They aparently are so directional, even height is important.
It still had some static, so I ran a longer cable and moved the receiver unit in the bedroom closer to the transmitter. There was a limit to how close I could get it, and getting it to the proper height was impractical. It worked better, but still some static.
To make it clear, it's sending both audio and video from my Yamaha RX-V3900 in the living room to my bedroom and sending IR signals received in the bedroom back to the 3900 in the living room.
I specifically wanted the Rhapsody music service, which my Yamaha RX-V3900 can receive to be heard in the bedroom. This product not only allows that, but lets me bring up the 3900's zone menu in the bedroom and control the 3900. So it's a perfect product for me IF it worked 100%. As I could never get rid of the static, I can't give it a perfect rating.
I would give the sound an 8 out of 10. Some static, but it's tolerable. If you want perfect sound you might want to consider that I could not get there. Could be my wireless or could be something else. In either case, it's tolerable especially for under $70.
I would give the video a lower score, but for my purposes, I did not need good video, I just need to see the 3900 menu.
