Pros:beautifully written, amazing characters, great in depth history of the family, and addicting.
Cons:Rice steers off course a little in this book but worth it.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this book. If you enjoy getting lost hours here it is, but be prepared to call in sick to work!
This book The Witching Hour is for the people who really love the whole concept of finding about your heritage and discovering a deadly secret that has been hunting a family for as long as they can trace back. On one hand you have a very talented female neurosurgeon that seems to be able to see the problems of patients and be able to fix them, and on the other you have an extremely successful architect that suffered and accident and now seems to be able to receive information about people by just touching something that belonged to them. As she is coping with finding out she was adopted and her biological mother has passed he is struggling with life, not leaving his house, and has secluded himself inside with no outside contact. After a mysterious English man from the Talamasca (also included in Rice's vampire novels) bring the two together they become inseparable and the story begins to unfold. A creature emerges that has been with the woman of the Mayfair women for as far back as they can remember makes him self know to the two when they move in to her biological mothers family home. But what they have yet to discover is, is this creature there to help them or destroy the very thing that they cherish. Does it want their lives? You will be taken through a time line that begins with the witch burning and ends with more questions then you could even think to ask. I find this book as I do all Anne Rice books amazingly written. When Rice writes you can smell the flowers, feel the breeze of the wind, and scream and cry with the characters as she brings themto life befor your eyes. There are times when this book steers off course and becomes a little long but in all it is one of my all time favorites. But just be warned you will never see the ending coming and you will be left as an addict waiting for her next book.
