Marvel HeroClix Mutant Mayhem: "Tsunami-Relief" Hulk — Greenskin is Out to Save the World

Written: May 30, 2009 (Updated Jun 17, 2009)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Good figure for a good cause; powerful game piece for low point value
Cons:Can easily get confused for the "other" Hulk figure
The Bottom Line: Tsunami-Relief Hulk was designed for a good cause. It's even better to know that he's also a great game piece to use. Hulk Smash!

In 2004, a series of lethal tsunamis struck Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia killing approximately 300,000 people. It is, to this date, the deadliest tsunami in recorded history. WizKids designed a way to donate some money to help the relief cause. It created Tsunami-Relief Hulk, a variation of the already exclusive Gamma Radiation Hulk available only through Wizard Entertainment's eBay store. One dollar from the purchase of each Hulk was donated to the American Red Cross Tsunami-Relief Fund. Ol' Greenskin is here to help save the day.

From external appearances, there is nothing different between Tsunami-Relief Hulk and Gamma Radiation Hulk; they are both exactly the same figure utilizing the translucent, green plastic mold. What changes between the two are the stats on the figures. Tsunami-Relief Hulk is actually a bit more powerful than his counterpart, and that says a lot considering that any version of the Hulk is already a powerhouse.

The first noticeable thing is the extra click of life; this one has nine clicks (out of twelve) versus eight with the other one. An extra click of life is nothing to sneeze at considering when it comes down to those life and death situations near the end of the game. As with most Hulks, this one starts off with puny Bruce Banner stats. The secret to this figure is to get him onto his next click of life as quickly as possible. This is usually done by "pushing" the character on its second turn and taking one click of damage due to exhaustion. When this is done, Banner transforms into the Hulk with an impressive +17 defense. This is a good way to start things off since it's harder to hit against +17 defense for a lot of characters. If you can keep him on this click, then more power to you. If not, do not fret because he just gets better.

His strength increases as he gets hit more by his opponents peaking to +10 attack, but his defense starts to decrease as a result. Still, his defensive power becomes more impressive as he goes from Toughness to Invulnerability to Impervious. Throughout the entire dial (except for the first) he retains his Super Strength. The same can be said as he goes from his Charge ability (move and attack on the same turn) for four clicks to Leap/Climb for the remaining four clicks. Just because his powers slowly diminishes doesn't mean he loses his power.

Here's the fun part. He does +3 damage for three rounds and increases it to +4 damage for another three rounds. But then he does a devastating +5 damage on his last two clicks. If you don't kill the Hulk before this happens, then avoid him at all cost.

His point value is more than his counterpart's by an extra 40 points. Considering what he has to offer, it's not a surprise at all. My problem between these two figures is that I get easily confused as to which one is which. It takes me a moment or two to figure out that one is worth more than the other. His point value is low considering that this is the Hulk so even though he seems a bit pricey, he really isn't considering what he can do for your team. Tsunami-Relief Hulk is definitely going to live up to his name by storming into battle like a tsunami and creating some relief for your team.
