Pros:Looks "real", makes sounds, lights up, has a spell book
Cons:no on/off, a little bit loud.
The Bottom Line: Zippitus-yer-Trapatus
My daughter loves Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place and specifically the character Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez). A friend of mine gave her the Wizards of Waverly Place Alex Doll (with wand) and couldn't resist getting her this kid-sized Wizards Wand of her own to play along with. The wand is made by Mattel and priced at $10.99. It says that it is for ages 6 and up (since it could be a weapon in the wrong hands).

The Wizard Wand looks like the wand used in the show by Alex and it is red with a green light on the top. Its about 10" long and an inch or so around - it looks a bit like a tapered candle. Near the base of the wand there is a gold star button that when pressed - the green light at the tip of the wand lights up and any of 5 "magic" sound effects go off. The wand comes ready so you can cast spells immediately, batteries already inside. Should you need to replace the batteries it takes 3 Button cells. My daughter has pressed this incessantly for a month and there has been no sign of decreased performance. I anticipate that the batteries in this will last for some time.
It comes with a small pamphlet "spell book" with a few silly spells in it for the kids to play with.
Cashmerus Appearus - a fashionable cashmere sweater magically appears.
Jolovitz-rid-of-zitz - zits are gone in a snap
Stop all the racket, I'll wear a jacket - "ok i'm wearing it!"
Switcherup Corperus - switch bodies with a friend/let the mischief begin!
Badhairdayus Disappearus - A hair don't instantly transforms into a hair "do".
Edgebono Utoosis - double your fun
My daughter thinks it is fun to pretend to cast magic spells and makes them up or uses ones that she remembers from the episodes like the famous : Guineus Pigius - which turns people into Guinea Pigs! She understands that it is all make believe and just for fun and that she isn't really doing magic. She memorized the spells from the paper that the wand came with and wanted to know more so I did a bit of digging.
If you are looking for more spells - copy and paste this link (to a Disney Wiki) and you'll find a comprehensive list of spells from the show and game:
Kids who love the show can have a lot of fun with this wand and will enjoy the fun sounds it makes and the way it looks. I'd like it better if it wasn't as loud or had an on/off switch as it can get a bit annoying when she presses it over and over and over. Clearly, she loves it. This wand is a lot of fun for Wizards fans and would also make a perfect accessory to an Alex Russo costume.
