Wolf Military Classic 9x18mm ammo - Avoid at all costs
Written: Jan 31, 2010 (Updated Feb 2, 2010)

Pros:Cheap, and you can use a magnet to pick up the steel cases.
Cons:Poor QC and steel cases can be hard on your gun.
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend steel case Wolf ammunition.
The Wolf Military Classic 9x18mm Makarov ammunition is Russian manufactured ammunition designed for the Makarov and other 9x18mm pistols that have become common in the West since the end of the Cold War.
The Wolf Military Classic line uses a non-reloadable steel case and Berdan primer. The case is coated with a polymer coating designed to ease extraction. The 95 grain bullet uses lead covered with a bi-metal jacket in the typical round nose Full Metal Jacket configuration. The Wolf website lists the velocity as 1,033 feet per second. The information does not include how far from the muzzle the measurement was taken or the length of the test barrel.
The main selling point of Wolf ammunition is cost. This is some of the cheapest ammo you will find. The steel jacket and Berdan primers help keep the component costs down and the typically low prevailing wage in Russian factories also reduce costs when compared to U.S. or Western European manufactured ammunition.
Unfortunately, these savings do come at a price, and that price is substandard quality control and the subesquent reliaibility problems.
I'm a firearms instructor and I've had to specifically ban Wolf ammunition from my classes after seeing too many problems first-hand. In one class I ran two different students each had multiple problems with their pistols firing 9x18mm Wolf Ammunition. One student had a PA-63 pistol and the other had a Bulgarian 9x18mm Makarov. Both students had numerous failures to eject and extract and at one point we had to use a range rod from the muzzle end to drive a live round out of the chamber of the Makarov.
After this, and other, incidents I banned Wolf ammo from my classes. This was both for safety reasons and to be fair to the other students. The time I spend trying to fix a student's gun bound up from bad ammo is time taken away from the other students.
Between the steel cases, which can be hard on the extractor, and the substandard QC, I do not recommend Wolf Military Classic ammo for any purpose. Here are my other ammunition reviews.
