I guess I had been pretty lucky. I had never had a problem with menstrual cramps, bloating or swelling. Didnt even know what these cramps felt like until I went into labor the first time, although these were a little more severe. But, when I hit 45-years-old, things changed. At first, I thought I was going through menopause but a visit to my doctor and some estrogen tests said I was wrong. Maybe that would have been a blessing.
Not to worry, this happens to some women when they get older, my doctor informed me. NOT TO WORRY was a complete understatement. I was experiencing some bad cramping, lower back pain and swelling in my ankles. A heating pad sometimes helps, he advised. So, when do I have time to lay down with a heating pad? A single mother who works 50 to 60 hours a week to put food in mouths and pay all the bills. He started to prescribe some strong pain medication but I declined. Since it is necessary for me to take a large dose of Dilantin daily to control my seizure disorder, I prefer not to take any additional strong drugs.
My co-workers suffered through my irritability each month as I could not get the pain under control and the bloating was just awful. Many a time, I found myself apologizing for snapping at someone for nothing. That just is not me.
I tried some Extra strength Tylenol. It brought the back pain under control somewhat but didnt do anything for the cramping and swelling. Then I graduated to Motrin, which took care of the cramps but not the back pain. Hmmmmm
which would I rather keep, the back pain or the cramps? Tough question, huh? So I alternated medicines each day of my cycle which did not help much and also did not help my co-workers much either. Sometimes I had to take time off work, which I could not afford to do. I was contemplating making another visit to the doctor for that extra prescription.
THEN I found it. I was waiting in line to pick up my prescription at the pharmacy and there it was staring me in the face, Womens Tylenol Menstrual Relief. It comes in a purple and white plastic bottle. I grabbed a 24 count bottle, bought it, brought it home and three days later, boy, I needed it.

My Experience
I was excited to try a different product although I tried not to be too optimistic due to my past record with this kind of medicine. The Womens Tylenol Menstrual Relief I bought, came in caplet form. I liked that as I find them easy to swallow. As soon as the backache started, which was what always happened first with me, I took the recommended dose of two caplets. After about twenty minutes, the backache did not get any worse than a slight twinge and the cramps didnt even start. I was elated and so were my co-workers who had previously resorted to carrying a crucifix around with them. This product did not prevent the swelling in my ankles but the swelling was a lot less noticeable as it was somewhat reduced. I had to take this medicine every four hours in order to keep my symptoms at bay.
Conclusion
I feel very lucky that Tylenol has produced this product. It has been more effective than any other medicine I have taken for these symptoms. Not only have I benefited from it, the people around me have also. Gone is my monthly Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde performance. I no longer have to dread monthly pain and cramps and do not have to take a strong prescribed drug. This product has allowed me to be practically free of pain and reduced swelling during my menstrual cycle.
I know this review was kind of personal but felt I owed it to my fellow monthly monsters out there.
