| Taryn74's Full Review: Wrebbit Perfalock Poster Puzzle -The Lord of the R... |
Searching for the perfect gift for my husband for Christmas, I stumbled across this series of Lord of the Rings Perfalock puzzles. The description on the back of the boxes sounded promising:
Perfalock, the first puzzle that goes anywhere without going to pieces! Make it, move it, mount it, and it won't fall apart! Precisely crafted out of flexible foam, Perfalock pieces fit together so perfectly you can barely see the seams! Its unique backing material means that Perfalock puzzles stay together without requiring messy glue.
Now you can build your unique Lord of the Rings Perfalock poster puzzle and hang it on your wall as you would a traditional poster! Be a part of this epic journey by collecting and building all four of these exclusive Lord of the Rings puzzles of your favorite heroes - only available in Perfalock puzzles!
Since my husband and I are both Lord of the Rings fans, we both love putting together puzzles, AND we love to frame and hang the puzzles when we're finished - this truly was the perfect gift. Naturally I had to have all four puzzles - Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli; Gandalf the White; Frodo and Sam; and Rohan - so I put in my order at Amazon and waited patiently for them to arrive. My husband was not disappointed when he opened his gifts. We began putting together the first puzzle almost as soon as Christmas dinner was cleared away.
The puzzles are 24" x 36" when assembled - very nice size for framing and hanging. Each puzzle has 500 pieces, with each piece being approximately 1.5" in length and width. The colors are brilliant and the scenes depicted capture the essence of the characters splendidly. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli focuses on Aragorn at his rugged finest in an upper body close-up, with Legolas and Gimli each having both a slightly smaller close-up shot and an action shot with their bow and axe, respectively. The background shows the characters surrounded by a ring of Elvish writing, which neatly ties in the essence of the One Ring, the central character (so to speak) of the entire tale. The background color fades very smoothly from a deep brown - almost black - at the bottom to a medium burnt orange at the top. Each character is subtly accented by a sunburst effect of white light, signifying perhaps the purity of their mission.
I was skeptical that the puzzles pieces really would "stick" together when assembled, so I was pleasantly surprised that once finished, we could pick the entire puzzle up and even shake it around a little bit without losing any pieces. The seams did not become quite as invisible as I would have liked, but I think once framed and hung it will still make a great movie poster.
All in all, this is a great set of puzzles to own. They are challenging enough to take more than an hour or two to finish, but not so challenging that they become frustrating. I would highly recommend them to any fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I am giving them four stars out of five due to the not-quite-so-invisible seams.
