| ddustyrose's Full Review: XACTO Boston Powerhouse 1799 Electric Pencil Sharp... |
My old Boston Mighty Mite pencil sharpener had never performed as well as I thought it should. Sometimes it wouldnt work at all and when youre in a hurry for a sharp pencil, you can lose your patience when dealing with a contrary piece of machinery.
I was a woman on a mission, that mission was to find a good pencil sharpener that would perform when I needed it, and not when it was in the mood.
The pencil sharpeners of my school years would have been perfect but even those are not made as good as they once were.
My husband actually found this sharpener at the new Office Depot, which had just opened in our county. It looked nice but what sold me was the Heavy-Duty Commercial Grade advertising. Heavy duty sounded so great compared to the poor performance of the lightweight Mighty Mite.
X-ACTO PowerHouse worked so well my husband wanted it. He teaches in a prison and his supplies are as scant as those in the public school system are. I would even say worse.

BASIC MAINTENANCE & SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Empty the receptacle on a regular basis. If the cutters become clogged, unplug, then remove and empty the receptacle. Dont use grease or oil on the cutters and dont submerge the sharpener in water plugged or unplugged.
Do not use your X-ACTO sharpener on crayons, chalk, or soft waxy pencils. The cutters will become clogged.
Do not operate sharpener without receptacle in place.
When I was a young schoolchild, I accidentally stabbed a sharp pencil into the right palm of my hand. The lead from that pencil is still there and noticeable. If you have small children, or even older ones, keep an eye on them.
It was also because of a pencil that I was bitten by a snake.
WARRANTY
2-year limited warranty
MY EXPERIENCE
Since my husband took my first X-ACTO sharpener to use at work, I had to buy another one. His students love it and when its used in a classroom day after day, it gets a lot of use.
My X-ACTO is used at home and not on a constant day after day basis. It sits on my desk and is always at the ready when needed. I have sharp pencils for all my puzzles, notes, grocery lists, writing appointments on calendars and any other use where a pencil is needed.
The motor starts automatically when your pencil is inserted into the front opening. The Pencil-Saver feature lets you know when your pencil is sharpened by a change in the motors sound. It only takes a few seconds to have a very sharp pencil to use.
Ive always loved the smell of a new pencil (my kids can attest to that) so having a sharpener that really works is a small feeling of satisfaction to me.
If youre shopping for a new pencil sharpener, you cant go wrong with this one. If youre a teacher who has to buy most of your supplies, you and your students will love it!
