Too much stapler?
Bah, no such thing as too much stapler. Dontcha just hate it when you have that stack of papers all lined up only to find out that the standard plastic (or metal) stapler just doesnt have enough torque to push through all the pages in your stack. Sometimes placing the stapler on a flat surface (ie, your desk) and then trying again will work sometimes it doesnt. You can try the electric staplers but theyre expensive, immobile and often arent much more useful than a standard stapler. And then theres the plier stapler.
Go ahead use a canon to kill a mosquito
Since first discovering these staplers Ive never used the old fashioned type again. This stapler is capable of stapling 50 sheets of 20# paper at once (per the manufacturer) but I use it for every stapling job I have down to two sheets. Why not? Makes more sense than keeping two staplers on the desk. So what makes it different?
Glad you asked. The main difference is in the fact that it works as a plier with two long handles which you grip in your hand. The long handles provide an exponential increase in leverage compared to a standard stapler. Coupled with the all-steel, heavy duty construction ensures that you can staple any stack of paper in your path. The depth of the staple will halt your progress long before you reach the physical limitation of the stapler itself.
The unit itself is a shiny (looks chrome plated) steel housing with two plier arms and the center staple feed. It uses all standard staples which are simply fed on a track and then held in place with a spring actuated plunger. It loads quicker than a standard stapler and almost never jams. Like a standard stapler, the striker plate (what the staple is driven into) can be reversed so that the staple ends can be bent inward or outward.
My usage
I run a mortgage business that at any given time has a shitload of paperwork that needs to be stapled. Yes, shitload is an industry term. Years ago I threw out all the old fashioned staplers and bought the plier type to replace them. Im sure it doesnt save all that much time, but for such a small bump in price why wouldnt I get the strongest and most reliable product on the market for this common task?
Earlier this year I bought my wife a Florist shop. Shitloads of paperwork are processed there on a daily basis too. Additionally, staplers are always being used for the cellophane on wrapped flowers, to re-close the wrapped roses in the cooler (lest they pop and lose their value) and very often to reclose cardboard boxes. Early on I did the same thing for her business that I did for mine years ago. I threw away the old staplers and bought a half dozen Rapid Plier Staplers for the shop. The employees were all thrilled with the new tools.
Isnt this a bit trivial?
Sure, but its also a cheap and easy way to make your day run just a little bit smoother if stapling is a daily occurrence for you. They really cost about the same as 'standard' staplers and theyre just so much easier to work with. Try it youll see. Happy stapling!
