shanna's Full Review: Xerox DocuPrint N24 Laser Printer
Being a technical manager for Kinko's has given me a wide exposure to many Xerox printers. This model, the Xerox DocuPrint N24 is one of our workhorses. I guess after being around Epinions for awhile and watching Silence of the Lambs a few too many times, I remember that we covet what we see everyday, or something like that... I see this N24 more times a day than I perhaps wish I did, but not because I don't like the printer, it just means I'm doing work.
The Xerox DocuprintN24 really does set forth guidelines for production printers, I use it to proof, I use it to create camera ready art to go to printers and for making everday, crisp clean laser prints.
One of the things most of us appreciate about work is 5 p.m., I know I do. And because this printer is really quick, it doesn't keep me waiting. The N24 will print 24 ppm (pages per minute) on either regular settings or duplex... oh yes, it duplexes!
So Shanna, how's the quality? Well I find it unsurpassed in laser print quality. You will get a crisp clean print everytime. Why? Probably due to the 600x600 dpi resolution this printer is capable of shooting out. It will also give you great half-toning using patented Xerox Quad Dot half-toning, for more information on that technology visit Xerox.com. You can also conserve on toner by printing in draft mode.
This machine comes standard with 24MB's of memory and you can kick that up a notch to 128 MB's. You can also ad 8 MB Flash (for printer firmware upgrades).
So what can I print.... well this little workhorse will print just about anything, with it's 2 trays and bypass feeders you can get:
letter, legal, folio, ledger, executive, A3, A4, A5, you can also feed envelopes, but we've never had much success getting any envelope to print on any printer correctly, so I don't hold that against them in this case. The printer comes standard with 2 paper trays. Adjusting your sizes is easy, due to snap in place paper guides that adjust easily. Clearing jams is easy as the printer will tell you where they are located and they are usually easy to access and clear.
Bells and whistles: you can add an optional stapler; 2,500 sheet high capacity feeder; 100 evelope feeder (C5, DL, Monarch, COM-10) & 2,000 sheet finisher/stapler or 10 bin mailbox. The N24 offers standby mode for energy conservation and is relatively quiet.
We use a 10/100 baseT ethernet connection on our network, but this isn't the only type of networking the N24 will support. You can add an optional Token Ring Network Interface card. But if you don't want to add extras connect through Ethernet 10Base2, IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel, or via a serial port (RS232-C).
So where's the flaws, everything must have a flaw.
The N24 will not print card stock. The maximum weight you can send through here is 110# card. This isn't bad, but you will experience frequent jams and problems when doing so. If you aren't going to be printing lots of card stock this won't bother you. The minimum weight you can fee is 16# bond or similar laser safe paper.
So who would I recommend shelling out $2150 to? Well this is your machine if you need a dependable, easy to connect, fast workhorse around the office or even at home. Due to it's size most home users would find it awkward, but will worth the investment of home office real estate if they need quality prints.
Creates solid blacks and smooth shades. Advanced toner prevents streaking and smudging. Installs quickly and easily, saving you time and money.More at Business-Supply
