| maxpower79's Full Review: Xerox DocuPrintâ„¢ P1202 Toner Cartridge |
I purchased this printer because I was sick of the low powered "bubblejet" style of printing, I wanted tons of sheets per minute and I wanted them now. In my busy work a day world, time is money and I have no time to be standing around waiting for the printer to finish my job, once line at a time a la old dot matrix printers. So when I went looking for a printer at my friendly neighbourhood computer shop I went to the big boys.
The Xerox DocuPrint P1202, was one of those big boys, tons of sheets per minute with capacity to be networked easily. It is probably meant to be used in an office setting but I wanted that power under my control. So I put down the big bucks, quality wise this printer is nothing beyond your average printer for 200 bucks. It fires them out fast and furious but honestly you could achieve the same effect for much cheaper. Also the paper cartridge isn't even very large so I found myself filling it all the time as that rapid fire printing speed was no match for the few sheets you could cram in there.
And don't even get me started on the toner cartridges cost. This printer doesn't have a nice idiot-proof light that comes on and says "You are out of toner, go get some" it just has three lights with indistinguishable symbols beside it that start flashing randomly. While this is going on you will notice a very loud grinding noise, which besides making you think your printer is broken, is supposed to let you know that the printer is out of toner. A lovely cartridge for this printer = 150 bucks, or the price of a cheap new printer, something that I was tempted to do after realizing the need for speed just isn't all that great in printers.
I think this printer was designed mainly for offices in that when your computer makes grinding noises you call the printer guy and don't even consider getting new toner, just let the printer guy figure it out.
So while the software is easy to set up, quality and speed are good, the maintenance of this printer and the hugely expensive toner cartridges (which are not included!!! - you get a small "sample" cartridge) and the smallish paper tray make this a choice not for the home buyer nor the corporate buyer.
