Probably, it was better (Reply to this comment)

in Aztec times...
And perhaps it is less of an open sewer with flowers and boats than it was during the latter quarter of the previous century? I perhaps missed anything about the water quality (and stench)?
My would-be urbane Mexico City friends would not be caught there.

Yeah, I know, you probably won't be seeing Carlos Slim and Vicente Fox quaffing brewskis on those punts....but for Jose Everyman, it is definitely Sunday afternoon in el capital!
Thanks for reading!

"Xochimilco is just one panel in the enormous quilt that comprises the world's largest city."
What a beautiful way to describe it. Loved the review on a place I didn't even know existed.

Brought back memories (Reply to this comment)

We visited this place when I took 36 Girl Scouts on our trip to Mexico. The girls loved it, all the action of boats coming up to sell merchandise and the colorful displays. A great place to visit as we were a tour group and had guides to help us. Great memories.
