Masta_Cloud's Full Review: Yu Gi Oh: Poc Yugi The Destiny for WIN 98SE, W2K, ...
Let me begin by saying I've been playing MMORPGs for a long, long time now. I've played nearly all of them. I know what makes a good MMORPG.
My first criticism of this game is that it does not promote socializing very much. Groups are created and disbanded quickly for quests. You never have time to associate with others. The game's guild system is lacking too. There is no housing in the game, so there is no central place for guild members to meet. There is no incentive for veteran players to help newbies.
The game factions are also usually horribly unbalanced. Alliance will almost always have many more players than the Horde. Does Blizzard care? No. There is no incentive to be the Horde. Blizzard clearly prefers Alliance if you look at all their benefits. For example, the Paladin class has a free mount at level 40, which costs 90g for other classes (except Warlock) to buy. Why doesn't the Shaman (the Horde's counterpart to the Paladin) get one for free too? When you PvP a paladin, you basically need to kill them twice. They have a spell that instantly fully heals them, not to mention a shield that makes them invincible so they can always run away. Blizzard needs to implement a system like Planetside where the side with fewer players get an experience bonus to promote balance. On the server I played on, the Alliance outnumbered the Horde over 2:1.
There is also no end game in WoW. I reached level 60 (the max) in just 1.5 months and I had no help at all. When I reached level 60, there was nothing for me to do that was enjoyable. There's basically two things to do: play in instances for 2-3 hours for a tiny chance of an item you need dropping or participate in PvP. Of course, with such unbalanced sides, PvPing is no fun at all on the Horde.
Gameplay-wise, this game is just like any other MMORPG I've played. Don't listen to people saying this is revolutionary or anything. This has all been done. This is just another typical MMORPG clone. Quests are mostly your typical Fedex or kill a certain amount of monsters. The only appeal it has is the fact it was made by Blizzard, therefore easily convincing the mainstream gamers to play.
The character system is too limiting. You can't customize the character the way you want at all. If I meet another person that is the same class and race as me, he'll have the exact same base stats as me. The game decides all the stats for you. The only thing you have to customize are your talents, but even then you don't differ much from others. Only items differentiate people. Speaking of items, the economy of WoW is seriously illogical. Why do epic items sell for hundreds of gold when a blue item that sells for 10% of the price is better? Why does wool sell for more than silk (a higher level cloth) on the server I played on?
The game also relies too much on levels rather than skill for PvPing. Projectiles magically home on to you. Why can't it adopt a system like Asheron's Call? In that game, you could physically dodge spells, which made PvP heavily based on player skill, not merely levels.
The community is filled with young kids who behave very immaturely. You will get annoyed by their begging, their AOL speak, and their stupidity very quickly.
Blizzard didn't design their tradeskills very well either. They are completely useless except for maybe one or two items each can make. Why would you spend tons of money and time to create your own weapon when loot is always better? I ended only using blacksmithing to make spurs. Tailoring ended up being used for bags only. Enchanting is the only decent profession, but it is so expensive and they are missing some very needed enchants. They need the ability to unbind an item from a character. This design decision was so stupid, Blizzard. Why would you make an item that is bound to a character when they picked it up? Do you know how many headaches that creates for people when an idiot picks up an item they didn't need but someone else in the group could have used?
Overall, this game is very poorly designed and gets very boring and repetitive quickly. Avoid this game.
