criteeker's Full Review: Yakima Loadwarrior Stretch Net
The idea is nothing new. Larger versions of this type of elastic cargo net have been found stretched across pickup trucks and the cargo sections of SUVs for many years.
Same principle is at work here with Yakima's Stretch Net - on a smaller scale. When you carry a lot of smaller things on your roof rack, you'll need a way to keep your things in place. Keep in mind, if you store something on your vehicle and it blows off at highway speeds, you'll be responsible for any damage to other motorist's vehicles or worse - if it causes a bad accident. Basically, the StretchNet is a latex-rubber spider web with sixteen injection-molded nylon hooks (four on each side) to keep cargo in place. For larger loads, say, on a trailer, I would recommend using ratchet straps instead of a flexible cargo restraint system.
Yakima makes a stretch net in three different sizes for three of their cargo systems: The Basketcase, LoadWarrior and MegaWarrior. One great feature for this stretch net system is that Yakima designed hooks that are less likely to tangle on itself. And the hooks have two sizes on each hook. One size each to grab the larger or smaller bars of the Yakima LoadWarrior rack. There's nothing more annoying than having to unravel a rat's nest of bungee cords or nets - especially when you're in a hurry. In my personal experience, they do not tangle as often as other cargo nets but they can become somewhat entangled on itself or other things. The Yakima nets are well-made and made right here in the good ol' US of A. For the six years I have owned this cargo net, not one hook has broken and the connectors between the elastic rubber lines have held up.
For around $30 to $40, this LoadWarrior cargo net will save you from losing things or causing an accident. You really don't want something coming off of your roof rack and smashing into the windshield of the car behind you... or worse, causing that vehicle to lose control. In my opinion, I recommend this inexpensive insurance plan that comes with piece of mind.
Please note: The cargo net pictured above is for the BasketCase and comes in red. The LoadWarrior and MegaWarrior nets come in black.
