Pros:Rich, consistent, expressive sound.
Cons:Bought mine reconditioned from a dealer, so it was a little pricey.
The Bottom Line: Considering Yamaha's reputation for quality and consistence, the C3's sound, responsiveness, and current market price give you a lot for your money.
I've been an amateur pianist for many years. Several years ago, I stumbled across one of these at a hotel in Bar Harbor, and I really liked its responsiveness. By the time I got into the market for a grand last year, I had forgotten the Yamaha and planned to get a Steinway.

When I walked into the piano showroom, they happened to have a freshly reconditioned '94 C3. Like the one at the hotel, this piano felt tremendously responsive; aside from the richness and depth of the tone, it had, in my subjective opinion, the best feeling keyboard I have ever come across. Coupling that with Yamaha's reputation for consistent quality, this budget-stretching purchase almost felt like a no-brainer.
It's one heck of a piano!!! I have two small complaints--one, recording with a ReVox SLR Microphone in a fairly live room, the tone sounds a little dark, particularly the low register. Two, it starts detuning fairly quickly after a tuning; I've owned it since May of '01 and it's been tuned twice since then. It doesn't detune significantly, but if you're very picky about pitch you will notice it. I'm pretty sure the piano is still adjusting to its environment. And in any case, this is my first grand, a tuning every four or five months might be typical.
Overall, however, I am very satisfied with C3, and I highly recommend it.
