Pros:Capabilities, Cost, Size
Cons:None, if you are not expecting an acoustic piano
I have taught classical piano for almost 40 years, the last 25 at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama; so when I said that I wanted to get a digital piano, my husband almost fainted. BUT -- I was interested in a digital piano for the capability of interfacing with our computer and facilitating composing and transcribing music.

Having played earlier digital pianos and being totally underwhelmed, I was not expecting to get anything which I would actually enjoy playing; I just wanted the composition features.
Auburn University has had a lease agreement with Forbes Music Company in Montgomery, Alabama, for several years. This was a company we knew and trusted. Will Glascow, one of their fine staff, was a person we knew and trusted. He listened to what I wanted and showed us the various models of Yamaha Clavinovas which he had. Boy, digital pianos had come a long way since I had played one earlier. I was impressed with the sound and also with the touch-sensitive keyboard. I will have to say that, having played acoustic pianos all my life, digital pianos simply are not the same. Even the really fine ones don't feel the same. But this keyboard was in a perfectly acceptable range for me.
The single most frustrating thing about getting the digital piano and getting it hooked up with the computer is that the piano people know about the piano and the computer people know about the computer, but there is no one who knows much about JOINING the two. We looked at shop after shop in town after town to find two little connecting cords which we needed. The piano store did not have them, and most computer shops did not have them either. We finally found them in a small computer shop in Birmingham, Alabama, along with a very computer-smart young man who knew what we needed and knew that he had it.
Once we got the set-up in place, I began using the composition software "Finale." The program is wonderful. The Clavinova is wonderful. I can actually play music onto the computer screen and then edit it or print it off. Exactly what I wanted.
Two years ago our house burned; and everyone we talked to said we should expect to replace ALL our electronics -- TV, appliances, computer, digital piano, etc., because even if they worked presently, the acid from the smoke was in there eating away and would eventually bring them down. We did replace the Clavinova -- and Will Glascow told us that in the interim they had actually gone down so that now we would get the next higher model for the same price we had paid for the lower model earlier. Our son is also a professional musician and he wanted the Clavinova which had gone through the fire -- even knowing that it might stop working at any moment. That was two years ago, and that Clavinova is still playing right along with no glitches at all.
This is an instrument with VERY acceptable piano, harpsichord, and organ sounds and with a touch which is responsive and easy to work with. Ours is a black finish which looks very nice; and the instrument is of a compact size which works well without taking up lots of space. This was definitely a very good buy for this classical musician. Would I give a piano recital on it? No. Would I use it for just about everything else? I would -- and I do.
