Pros: Feels almost like a real piano, Rich in features, Nice finish
Cons: Sticky keys problem (secret warranty available), No MIDI output on recorded tracks
I bought my Clavinova CLP-950 in 2001 with a 4-years extended warranty. It was delivered from the store and assembled in my home. After the delivery guys left, I started playing and noticed that there was some noise coming from inside of the keyboard. I called the service, they came, opened the instrument and found inside a piece of paper with some notes for the assemblers that was apparently attached to the sliding key cover. The assemblers simply forgot to remove it before opening the cover for the first time, and it came inside. This did not break anything but left some bad impression, you know.
After that I played the instrument with no troubles for another 3 years. I really enjoyed it, especially the fact that I could play during the late night using headphones and record myself.
Then I got the first sticky key... I checked on the internet and found out that it is a known issue of this product line. The instrument was still under warranty, so I called the service, they replaced the key (it took them about 40 minutes) and said if it was not under warranty then I would have to pay a $180 bill...
UPDATE: Yamaha is replacing faulty keyboards on CLP-950 free of charge. After contacting the local dealer, I could get a brand new redesigned keyboard module delivered and installed within one week totally free. Now I feel much happier - the instrument is like new and (accordingly to the repairman) will not get such a problem in future.
