Yamaha MM8 Synthesizer

This keyboard has recently come to our school and I was given to test it out and review it. What I found was that this keyboard delivers all the musical power and creative control you need. It has a large variety of dynamic and realistic voices to help you arrange and perform in virtually any style of music. The MM8 with a remarkably expressive GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) keyboard. If you're a piano player, you'll notice and appreciate the difference as soon as you touch the keys - the instrument feels and responds like a grand piano!

The keyboard is loaded with high-quality sampled sounds of real-time control, dynamic music creation tools like automatic pattern and an arpeggio generator, a performance memory for instantfull panel setting changes, handy song recording features with eight normal tracks and one pattern track.

Talking about the patterns, the keyboard has a full set of Patterns that give you powerful rhythmic backing in a wide variety of music styles including Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, Dance, Ambient, Pop, Rock, Jazz and even World styles. These Patterns are as close to the real thing as you can get. Patterns that stay solidly in the groove, but never sound mechanical.


The MM8 is ideal for song arranging, composing and writing. The powerful, dynamic and realistic patterns and arpeggios ensure that your tracks sound completely professional. Up to five user tracks can be recorded in the keyboard's memory itself, and with a USB flash drive attached to the USB mount in the rear panel, you can store an unlimited number of songs(depending upon the memory storage of the USB flash drive.

While playing live, you require smooth changing of the sounds, and also the variations of the preset or your custom rhythms. A performance memory, i.e. a small registration bank of all your configurations allows you to switch smoothly, even when you do it between the song. You can split the keyboard into two or layer up upto two patches one upon the other which enhances your playing quality.

Most of the music today synthesised is done using a MIDI controller and a PC. The keyboard supports MIDI interface with a six channel support. The GHS keyboard makes it even more cool. The control knobs and the pitch and modulation wheels make it a full controller.
