Pros: Good Value, sound quality, surround panning
Cons: Only has composite video switching, limited digital connections, poor remote, poor aesthetics
The Bottom Line: A solid buy, performs well given the entry level price point, but they are better looking units out there.

For an entry level surround receiver I was pleasantly suprised by the Yamaha's performance in stereo and surround. The unit features Pro-logic 2 which is a bonus for stereo sources, as it can produce better surround than standard Pro-logic. The unit is fairly well built, and has decent binding posts for good speaker connections, but the aesthetics aren't so good, and the remote is difficult at best. However for about £200 this unit is good value and will suit a wide range of set-ups.
The tuner performance is adequate and features RDS which can be of use. My main gripe though is there are no s-video nor RGB connections for video switching, which makes setting up the system with lower quality connections than I would like. Having said all that this receiver will outperform many at similar a similar price point, such as Sony and Denon alternatives.
