| callthedoctor's Full Review: Yamaha RX-V630 6.1 Channels Receiver |
I bought this receiver from a retailer ($498) as well as my 5.1 speakers, so I paid too much but am happy none the less...am looking forward to maybe getting another center for the 6.1 capabilities...
Hookups were simple and straightforward, well-marked in the back.
The volume control is both pro/con....you must turn and turn and turn the dial to increase/decrease....Yamaha says this is because it is a digital control and gives the user more precise control of power/volume. eh...take it or leave it...
Overall the sound is fantastic...again, I bought this package with lower-end Boston sats and subwoofer and this system will ROCK my house...I have two little kids and unfortunately can't or rarely play it at the volume I'd prefer, but overall this is a great do it all receiver. Music and Movies, you can't go wrong...presets are nice and give you control and choices....
I have a Sony Mega CD and must hook it through the MD-CDR aux port, since the CD input is not optical...
Also, I had (or preferred) to buy a new DVD player as the input for the DVD is optical and not digi-coax....however, there is one port for digi-coax and the unit's I/O can be re-configured through set-up menus....
Remote is decent...buttons are in good places and no problems yet...(the volume again is a little disturbing as you must hold the remote down quite a bit...)
Overall I highly recommend this unit....
