| arianaseibel's Full Review: Ye Olde King's Head |
Ye Olde King’s Head is a great place to go with a small to medium sized group of adults for some real beer and fish and chips. I’ve never been to England so I can’t comment on how authentic this place is, but I do know what I like.
Décor
Pictures of celebrities line the walls. Various beer signs and posters fill in the blank spaces. Tables are a bit close, but that just lends itself to the pub feel of the place.
Menu
First and foremost is the beer. I’m not talking about Bud, Miller, or Coors. I mean Guinness, Harp, Bass, Murphy’s, and Boddington’s. If the first set of brands appeals to you more than the second, don’t bother coming. A real treat is the Snakebite a sweet mix of cider and ale with a kick.
The fish and chips are quite good. There is another English pub style restaurant down the street and I think King’s Head are the best by far. Also good are the Bangers and Mash (sausage and potatoes) and the Cornish Pastie (a pot pie).
Service
If you mind being called ‘luv’ then this isn’t the place for you. Most of the staff have accents and a very familiar attitude. I’ve always found them friendly, helpful at explaining dishes to those unfamiliar, and good about making substitutions. Occasionally on the weekend it is very crowded and can take some time to get a table.
In the end, King’s Head is a fun place for dinner before or after a movie on the nearby Third Street Promenade.
