| nine11c2's Full Review: Yokohama Geolandar H/T Truck/SUV Tire |
I've been two sets of tires on my 2001 Pathfinder, the cheap first one's (Toyo's, virtually passenger car tires) and the expensive second one's (Pirelli ST). It seems that no matter what I do, after 35-40,000 of highway driving above the speed limit, they start to wear. The Pirelli blew out at 80 on the highway after 40,000 with at least 15,000 miles left on the tread, however, Pirelli had discontinued the tire and couldn't honor the warrantee on the same tire. Their replacement Pirelli tire, rated no better Yokohama Geolandar H/T's, and were almost twice the price.
The Yokohama Geolandar H/T was very well rated on Tire Rack as being very good handling and in rain and snow. Basically, I want a tire that will handle good on the highway, but that will handle the 30+ inches we can get on my 140 foot 25 degree driveway.
The Yokohama are exactly what you want in a tire - good handling, good in the wet, quiet and good traction. In fact, the traction in mud is far better than the previous high priced tires. While the handling is a bit less sharp than the former Pirellis, the ride is better.
The tires seemed to take a large amount of weight to balance initially but that hasn't been a problem. They only came in white letters in my size, but they make my truck look different than all the rest out there.
The tires have about 10,000 miles on them and appear new except some scrub on the outside fronts. They seem to be wearing very well.
The key is, they are a very, very good tire, wearing as well as my father-in-laws expensive Michelins at a VERY, VERY competitive price.
By the way, Tire Rack is excellent. The surveys provide way to review tire ratings from people, just like Epinions but more qualitative, and buying from them saves you money. I bought these tires from Tire Rack, paid shipping and $20 a tire to high speed balance and still saved $100 over what I could have bought them for from Sears, Mavis, etc.
