Where is this? (Reply to this comment)
by dennisfan
Hi,
Great review. The only thing I'd suggest is adding a line telling people where this is located. Otherwise, it sounded really interesting.

Thanks, Carol. I loved the business card idea - it sure took a lot of guesswork out of it, and gave us something to talk about!

I'm hungry now and sure do want some of this Japanese food!
That is very interesting about the business card. Thanks for sharing this excellent review with us.

since they moved (several years now). My place is Jazz at Pearls in North Beach, but I heard a rumor they're shutting their doors. Man oh man.

It's a clear soup made of (as far as I can tell) fish stock, 2 kinds of Japanese mushrooms (shiitake and the one that looks like a sea anemone), fish, shrimp and nori. Some dashi I suspect.
I find it really good.

It bugs me when restaurants are closed when you want to eat there. This happened last night at a different place - don't they know we're hungry?
Weird coincidence that you tried to eat here!

Sugi. Blast from the past! I miss Kamameshi House - kamameshi's not big here.
What's emperor's soup?

yeah - Walnut Creek scares me too - especially that brewery with the pseudo-spy room.

Interesting... (Reply to this comment)

I tried to go to Yoshi's this last weekend when I was in Oakland. It looked fascinating and interesting enough to try -- but it was always closed when I went past it! -- Telynor

Such A Coincidence... (Reply to this comment)

I just got home from Makati. Had dinner at old reliable Sugi. Opted for light Japanese fare tonight since binged on cocido for lunch: grilled sesame eggplant, hamachi sushi, tendon, emperor's soup and sake, all for two. Total price? A paltry sum of PHP1,800; equivalent to US$34 (excluding tip).
Not bad, huh?

Yum, papaya (Reply to this comment)

You can keep your mangos and your loquats. Give me a papaya, a squeeze of lime, and I'm a happy guy.
Delicious review, megu. Sounds even better than dining in Walnut Creek!
