Ah yes...I'd forgotten about Bunratty. Good steer (mmoooo!) ;-)

That reminds me of another mead that's sold in Maryland -- it's made by the Linganore Winery in Mt. Airy MD (upper Montgomery County area) and is frequently sold at the MD Rennaissance Festival.

Linganore has a web site too: www.linganore-wine.com

Cheers!

One suggestion if you can get it is Bunratty Meade. It comes in a glass or ceramic crock (glass is cheaper). I've been buying it for years and never had a complaint yet when I serve it. cheers

No, there's not really any beer that has the same kind of honey expression that you find in a good mead. About the best you can do in mainstream beers is J.W.Dundee's, though some of the barleywines (like this one) have similarly sweet flavor profiles.

There are some wineries doing real meads, and it is pretty easy to make yourself (I make meads fairly often and would be happy to chat about it and point you to some good recipes if you're thinking of giving it a try, send me email if you want more info).

Cheers!

Do you know of any beers/ales that taste like the honey meade you get at the Faires?

I don't like beer as a rule (but Nick loves it so I read these to buy different ones for him) but some meade would be nice on a winter day when there are no faires to hit...

Great review.. as always!
