There are a surprising number of reasons not to let cats wander around outside on their own. Starting with not wanting them to be run over, attacked by other animals, or adopted by well-meaning strangers (!). And including the fact that because humans have fed cats, our ecosystem can no longer handle them. Domestic cats are single-handedly wiping out entire endangered species. There are now bird-watching organizations that put out ads to have your cats spayed & neutered!
I swear, someday I'll find a good kitten book, even if I have to keep buying them long after our kittens have grown into cats. ;)

Both of the kitten books suggest spaying/neutering around, iirc, 8 months for boys and a little less for girls. Roughly. But I know some breeder contracts require it by 6 months. It's hard to know what to trust.
It just seems like it should be easy to write a short, informative kitten book!

Three months, and neutered already! (Reply to this comment)
by wordwalker
That was what my kittens' breeder insisted on, and I believe it's becoming the standard. At three months they are much less prone to digestive problems than they were at two.
I have many cat books, but none is especially current and informative about kittens.

Darn straight it's impossible!
We've started ordering all the various paraphernalia we need. You know, lots and lots of kitten toys...

*laugh* I'll have to make sure to keep the kitties away from day trading!
Yeah, I think an informal game of tossing things around & having the cat sometimes bring it back to toss again is something different from deliberately teaching an animal to go fetch. Imo, of course. :)
Five days till we meet the kittens! (all bouncing with gleeful anticipation!)

You are entirely too kind, but thank you. Ahh, for some free time and freedom from my current tendonitis flare-up. One of these lifetimes. :}

Yes, you should write that definitive book. You've already written good reviews about kitten books. Good luck.

Thank you for the very kind words!
I love to look at Siamese, but I don't think I could ever live with one. :) They're stunningly gorgeous, but the sound of a baby crying gives me migraines. ;)

Wonderful Review. . . (Reply to this comment)
by mommykim
and I agree, maybe you should write a GOOD cat book. I have yet to find one, either. It appears to me that most of the cat books I have read were written by people who probably don't really even own their own cats. It takes someone who has had their share of them to know how they operate!
And yes, we have a Siamese kitten right now, after I swore I'd never have another Siamese, and she's rather obnoxious. ME-O-O-WWWWW....and her attitude is just as obnoxious. But, alas, she's pretty.
Wonderful Review!

Well, none of the misinformation was dangerous, some of the book was useful, and it's hard to expect much for $2.49.
I'm tempted. Believe me, I'm tempted. If I had the time, I'd go find a publisher and submit a proposal.

doesn't sound much better than some of the free literature I find outside my grocery store. I'm surprised you even recommended it. Maybe you should think about doing the ultimate kitty book!
